Found this “mistake” photo I took the other day. I fat fingered and it zoomed in, but looking back it’s kinda cool in niche 70 series option sorta way.

Where’s my ho’s at?

2 days later I Got these in the mail. Cruiser outfitters is nice and fast.

Went out to the garage and saw this after I rolled it back. Yep that would have been bad.
Brake fluid makes such a mess.

Yep these were bad.

All in and working. Drove into town to power wash all brake fluid off, no leaks and no transmission leaks this time.

Usual poser stuff.

You should consider doing a thread that features nothing but “poser shots”. 😁

Did a few errands and took my son fishing in some local ponds. Nothing exciting, all ponds were near/in town, but I’ll never complain about spending time with my son and fishing.

Also got a thumbs up from @shellb who happened to be up in my neck of the woods. I just saw a flash of a rig and thumbs up, or maybe he was giving me :flipoff2: Driving the cruiser slower than the speed limit usually gets me plenty of both.

He also apparently saw me just a little later up by the interstate but I’m sure my son and I were chatting fishing, baitcasters and
Basketball all while not paying attention.

It’s always something right? You either get @SNLC to rip the bandaid off and build you a better than new cruiser, or you slowly slowly pull the Bandaid off and fix every problem as it comes at you.

I can tell you if I had money which path I would choose.

Last couple trips, no leaks on the h55f so who really knows.

However:

Rusty residue in the overflow tank.

However coolant is clean looking, even in the overflow.

It’s not oily and only smells like coolant so from everything I’ve understood it’s just rust from the coolant system. Not sure if a deposit just fell off or what?
The first order would be to flush the coolant and replace. I’m not sure the easiest way to flush a 70 series, but I do hate filling coolant in it. I’ll get a coolant burper.

In normal 70 series owner news, I stopped to grab a sandwich at lunch.

Counter kid: man that is such a cool Jeep.
Me: thanks it’s a Toyota Land Cruiser
Counter kids coworker: slaps counter kid and says Bro! While laughing
Counter kid: sheepishly says: sorry it’s cool.
Counter kid: I bet it’s a lot work since it’s old
Me: nah it’s not a jeep
Counter kids coworker: laughs again loudly

Next anecdote:
Pulled next door to the sandwich shop at the car wash to vacuum. Guy came right over and just stared like a kid in a candy store no words just looking in the window at me

After what seemed like 5 minutes, i put the vacuum down and said hi. He was pretty cool and loved the cruiser. Wanted to get one to tow an RV Becuase they are diesel. After laughing a little to myself, we chatted some more about rigs and such.

He offered to help with the body work, he’s retired and enjoys it. He handed me a business card.

Now maybe it’s just me, but that slogan “maybe we can do it” is not confidence inspiring.

He actually asked if he could take a video for his son. So I’m a movie star again…

I usually get the chat up from former 40 series owners who want to tell me how they wish they still had their cruiser... ill talk to anyone for as long as they want if they know its a 70series, im not usually too chatty 😄

Not a single person has known what a 70 series is that wasn’t from another country that I’ve ever chatted with.

If someone between the ages of 25-40 ask me how I got a 70 Series there is a 90% chance they are ex-military and served in the Middle East.
I also get the ones that swear their father or grandfather had one just like it on the farm. I’ve found that it’s easier to just agree with them than to try to explain. 😊

Low hanging fruit. Painted the bling intake tube black. Ended up pulling the whole air filter and cleaning the paint under that. I Don’t know why.

Found this crack. Must be all that HP and torque….

C41A68B7-0A05-4ED8-8596-2B92D36EA31A.jpeg

Cleaned the ground for the wipers and opened it up to clean out old hard grease, left the good stuff.
Wipers move minimally faster.

Also pulled the overflow tank and cleaned it out. Going to monitor that and see what happens.

Hello,

The air filter can always use a coat of black. It makes it look better. Not to mention the additional power... And it makes a good excuse to tear it apart.

Rusty residue in the overflow tank
Doesn't look too bad to me.
Mine looked much worse recently (cleaned it out 2 weeks ago), although I did a full flush of the cooling system with a garden hose 3 years back, when I got the rig and ran good coolant since.
I'm scratching my head wether I should do another flush. But the last flush killed my waterpump. Soooo rather not.
Cheers Ralf

I was wondering if one could just pull the motor off and clean on that side. Wonder if there is anything to clean on the other side. Thanks for the picture. This is in reference to the wiper motor ;)
I was honestly waiting for everything to spring free and go everywhere but thankfully that didn’t happen. I’m part afraid to pull the cover /windings off.

Yeah im guessing it’s just deposits dropping off would be my guess. After cleaning mine I Drove around for about 2 hours this evening and all is still clean.

This might be boring for some but the Alucab popup troopy dudes got me wanting to get my rooftop tent fixed.

About a year or so ago

As usual i got it as a “deal” because it needs work. Well someone overuerelanderer didn’t secure it and around the corner it flew….

Basically it busted off on this side, necessitating replacing of the plywood.

The plywood is 3/8” basically. So 2 4x8 sheets of plywood. The measurement will be 48x71”.

Any thoughts on best plywood to use or just send what I can get?

It’s in good shape other than that, nearly new. Love the animal print safari mattress.

I am missing the the “poles” for the rain fly.
There are rods for the windows and the entry way.
I found the window ones for $75 for 4. ARB Rods are very similar and $1.86 each…I need to find the sizes. I suppose I could order an arb rod for as cheap as it is and see if I can reshape it.

Also need the ones for the door but those aren’t in stock anywhere. I’m sure online I could find some steel rod the right size.

I need to find a rivet gun, not a ton of rivets so I don’t need anything fancy. Any recommendations?

A reminder of the animals that could see you as a night time snack if you slept on the ground. 😁

We use birch plywood on anything we want to reach a good trim level and also last...
Not sure why (not a carpenter), but this type seems to resist moisture and have better strength characteristics than other types of wood origins, probably due to better quality segments/layers and bonding.
Not sure of plywood composition and raw materials o your end but this is what we use.
Hope this helps.
Good luck

Got some plywood, and after a few rounds with Amazon the right sized rivets. I got ever so slightly thicker plywood. 3/8” was close but just a little thin.

Also in South Africa they use different lumber than we have here. It looks like acacia to me, and I see they have South African Blackwood which is apparently acacia.

Hopefully this will hold up. I stained and sealed it.

Attached the aluminum pieces with rivets

I was able to reuse the front trim that has Velcro for the fly screen.

The side pieces, 1 good, 1 broke so I’ll have to rip a piece to match it.

Almost done with 1 side. This is a big tent , 71x96” all folded out. I really didn’t need a tent this big but the price was right for a project.
