I know you're up to your neck in rooftop tent right now, but how about this?

This is the 2nd photo I’ve seen of this rig. I was hoping @Felde got more photos or knows who the owner is.

This photo does show good detail on the roof line.

I still have my high top frp top sitting out back. Might be a winter project finally…

Gaining more ground on the tent.

I’m missing the window/door rods. They are $20 each from Eezi-awn. So me being fiscally conservative (read cheap) there had to be another option.

Enter ARB tent rod for $1.87. It showed up in a stupid big box and shipped for $13.00…

That said it fits perfect. The length for the windows is 30”, this is 31”. I need to put a bend at the end. I ordered 3 mor to finish the windows.

The ones for the door sides are 34” long. 3/16” steel rod is about perfect so I’m getting those at the hardware store for a few bucks to make the right size.

Got the other side off, cut and stained will start putting all the brackets and rivets on in the next few days.

Sorry, I don't have more info. The owner wasn't around when we looked at it.
If one desperately wants to make contact to the owner, a posting with the pic in the Buschtaxi forum might help.

The Eezi-Awn is basically done. Just need to put the ladder back on and then figure out a way to mount it.

The other rods will show up soon, but they seem to work great.

I came outside and Finn was just sitting there. I didn’t even have to insta-pose him.

So I took the first drive I’ve taken in a week and the first thing I did was get….the……mail…

I mean it is handy…

Found some gold today :)

I took @Felde advice and registered at the buschtaxi forum. He helped me post pictures as I failed and Within a day, member Reite, (Dirk) recognized that rig from allrad magazine from 2007. Not only that he took pictures/scanned and emailed it to me. He tolerated my google translate which was awful.

Very cool of him!
EDIT: found the member @Reiti thank you!

It’s in German and I’m American which means I only know terrible English and 1 step above a bogan. Pocito espanol perro no bueno.

I’m going to translate it all to an English word document and get some more details out of it. Otherwise our multi-lingual and German members will enjoy it first :)

So this rig is stupid cool. Started out life as HZJ74, so 1HZ, coil spring front, 5 lug. It was then converted to 1HD, so now an HDJ74 just like @bottombracket

From what I’ve tried to convert, they were starting a business and this was sort of a proof of concept and led to other builds.
The poptop portion was only used for headroom, you will see in the photos the bed setup.

I’ve reached out in the past to that company on the side and got just a “we don’t have it, it was custom”

It’s possible I may be able to still get in touccj with the owner and better pictures but this is a great find!

So that lit a fire.

Front area is just the regular FRP top which should be great for mounting eurovan hinges.

Talk about over decorating the cake. That stuff was nasty to cut through.

The whole thing needs a good cleaning but looks like this will be very doable.

Just looking for some reasonably priced euro hinges now.
Not sure if it's in your wheelhouse, but if you want to make your own, I've attached plans.

its like its made to be able to do this

I like where this is going.

Yeah the actual hard part is already done on this. It’s something to do with taxes on a 4 seater vs a 2 seater high roof van in Europe. So they would slap these custom roofs on to skirt taxes.

That was a well known vehicle tax "loophole" in the Netherlands, they had a lot of Cruisers and Patrols with those makeshift roofs, some just had a hole cut into the roof with a square box glued on top. So I'm pretty sure your roof is of Dutch origin.

I believe you are 100% right. @gr8ful imported the HZJ73 and would know everything about it. He is the one who hooked me up with the top.

But let’s dive into this myth shall we?

The top in question:

Now if you look at the back you can read “werkverker”. My Dutch knowledge starts with windmills and wooden clogs and ends with Vanhalen.

Now according to translate sites we have a couple possibilities. According to one site:

The iPhone told me:

So I think it’s a public works or traffic work construction vehicle. However when you ask Siri to pronounce that word, it kind of lends itself to the former definition.

“ verk-fuh-keer”. Now I still laugh at fart sounds so maybe it’s just me.

So that’s leads us with 2 possibilities that could benefit from a tax break. I mean it is close to Amsterdam…

Traffic worker - lights, sign, storage in back for cones, tax breaks for only 2 workers fitting, no rear windows for privacy from thieves

S@x worker - lights, sign, storage in back for…(this is a family forum) I suppose it’s possible to fit more than 2 people, but legally it’s still for 2. This isn’t a troopy we’re trying to pass through the loophole. (I wonder how many limo troopys in Amsterdam?) no rear windows for privacy…

I’d call either usage case “plausible”

Now I’m not here to judge, just present the facts, but I am leaning towards “traffic worker”

Can confirm “werkvereer” sticker going on when done

Hi
'werkvereer' means 'traffic for construction work'.
The plate signals that this vehicle is eligible to enter road construction sites blocked off for normal traffic and thus may take unexpected turns or sudden stops. This goes along with the orange flashlights, too.
Germany has a similar sign, saying 'Baustellenfahrzeug', combined with red and white diagonal stripes.
Cool project. following interested...
Cheers Ralf

'Baustellenfahrzeug'
ahhhhh, the old baustellenfahrzeug.... just rolls off the tongue
what a beautiful language 😁
