Kidding aside. I presume the radio just started doing this? IE it started out "OK" and now does this?

If that is the case you may want to check the power connections on the radio. I presume it has two hots, one switched and one constant for memory. Depending on how your converter is operating you most likely do not actually have true full time memory power and that could possibly come into play.

it's on the map. east of W168, ifr, vfr, whatever, don't need to squawk 1200 if you're in a 7*.

I suspect you're going to have a professional bug it out, but I think the fact it's a "first energized" anomalous transitional occurrence points to a false ground, insufficient ground, shared ground. Are all of these components taking their feed from the converter, including the lights?

not that these trucks ever vibrate enough to knock anything loose, but that's maybe an easy place to start. Where is your converter grounded?

I didn't install the converter myself ( unlike most on this forum I don't have talent, tools or time ) but I will check tomorrow to see where it is grounded.

Has anyone tried this product ( or similar products with dye ) to identify an A/C leak?

Charles, a mist of baby powder on the suspect joints usually works. attapulgite from attapulgus would be even better.
 
I can drive to my local parts store in 15 minutes however a round trip to Attapulgus will take an hour plus. :)
I'm told the "stop leak" will soften older o-rings and the dye will help identify an external leak.
I'm not convinced that my issue is not internal to the compressor in which case this product is probably useless.
