My only concern with using a textured coating would be cleaning the crud and mud
off of the running boards. I do not want to end up with running boards that have a permanent brown tint.

that is exactly what will happen
you can get anti slip tape that is self adhesive and you can replace as neccessary. benefit is when you want the show truck or all summer you have a nice looking running board, then in the muddy season you just peel and replace.

Unfortunately I suspect you are right and our "muddy" season has a tendency to be nine to ten months long. September and October are fairly dry months assuming we are not visited by one of those pesky hurricanes.

factory, i have it on a couple of my trucks as well.

Is it the higher spec models with the lip or year or just good old depends on how Toyota was feeling that day when the made the rig.


Our "LX" model 76,8,9 series range come with OEM alloy steps.

I have both so I must be special.
What I don't understand is that both the Cruiser and my 4Runner have the small "push out" vent windows and while the 4Runner's are great ( huge amount of airflow) the exact same ones on the Cruiser are basically worthless. I realize one is somewhat blocked by the snorkel but the opposite side is equally inefficient.

My vent windows did not leak water but they did produce a noise similar to a turbo whine. I put up with it for a while and then changed the seals. All quiet now..
...well as quiet as a 2H powered Cruiser can be.

Were these dash mounted units ever optional or standard equipment on a 70 Series? My LJ78 had a similar unit that had an altimeter and an side/outside temp. display but no inclinometer. My HJ75 only has the back fuel gauge installed in the unit.

My bj73s got one nearly exactly like that. I want to gut it out and put the egt, boost and water temp gauges in there

the inclimeter would be great so you can say "i made it to 44 degrees before it went over. maybe the mini's needed them for their higher stance?

Same as your 78 but in my 74. I've seen the inclinometer in 60's here.

Also, as fitted to your 75 the long-range tank gauge goes in there.

I took a closer look at the inclinometer and according to it you roll over and tumble down the hill at 30.5 degrees.

they have the same setup in the Delica so you could easily get one off the Delica forum.
