Its most likely the sending unit. The riostat part of it goes bad and it doesn't send the correct signal.
Thanks for that information. Even though I have the rear tank in reserve, I still don't like seeing the front gauge set on empty and having to estimate how much fuel is left in that tank. I am to much of a believer in "Murphy's Law" to allow the situation to persist.
Fortunately I was between gears and was able to coast to a stop. Now the bad part......my shiny Land Cruiser was towed back to town behind my brother-in-laws dirty ole F-250 which I am sure is on "You tube" by now. I may have to go in hiding for a while.
