Our cruiser needs a new alternator. I took my old one into one of the last rebuilding shops in the Little Rock area as I wanted to get a higher amperage rectifier . They called me a few days later and said there aren’t any parts available anymore to overhaul this alternator. I look online and all I see is the stock ones probably with cheap parts in them. Where do I go from here?

Here’s a start:
Research the gm alternator mod, brackets can be sourced.
Mean green (?)

I just replaced my 10+ years old high output Mean Green alternator with a new Mean Green. Price point was almost 2x what I had paid 10+ years ago at $561.

Hope to have the old unit rebuilt if I can find a quality rebuilder in the Los Angeles area.

I thought at one point either vintageteq or ToyotaMatt had a setup to fit a 62 alternator into a 60? I could have been dreaming. 🤪

Do you run either of these? I hadn't seen the 12 Degrees stuff before. Interestingly they say it is capable of supplying 100A at idle, a claim that all the fancy "upgrade" alternator companies shy away from, because pretty much every alternator can only provide very limited juice at 600-800 rpm. I'm wondering how true the claim is here.

Really that's where I need and want current supply is at idle. Camping with my big aux light ion to set up the tent? Idle. Winching? Usually I have the choke out to increase the rpms and it would be nice to have more current supply there. Cold and rainy night at a stoplight with the headlights, heater blower, turn signal, rear defrost, and wipers going? Idle. I just want more supply capacity at idle.
