"before I failed to go up it. Or, rather, I succeeded in only going 1/3 of the way up."

You gave it ****, and I am proud to say I was there when you did make the 1/3. Trail 4 was no joke.

Who got pics of my mini stomping the trail before Sam went up?

Josh

Thanks Josh. I gave it my all. I think I was in the 40 with Mike when you went up 4. I did get some good ones of you dominating the rock race though. I think I even have a short vid.

GSMTR update:
So some of you already know that my truck wheeled great at GSMTR. I went over a lot of trails and obstacles that I didn't think there was any way a basically stock truck on 33s could do. I am proud of how well it did and feel good about the work I put into the truck to get it in shape for the event. That being said, I did have some troubles. The truck kept dying when I would get on a steep incline (carb) and due to having to restart many times the battery died. We got the battery swapped and truck was doing well again. Another driver went for a firewood run on a rough section of road and the motor mounts let go. No fault of his I'm sure. I know that one was already a little shifty and I expect already on the verge of breaking.

Build update:
So, it's time for a heart transplant. I already acquired a 22RE which needs a little work. My plan is to get the donor truck down to the shop, get everything swapped over, and then do a little work on the RE to get it in shape for some wheeling. I plan to sell the 20R which is VERY clean inside (been rebuilt sometime recently, not sure of mileage) and has a couple little oil leaks but nothing serious, and get a 5 speed. I want to do the double cases also but I'll have to wait and see what the funds look like. It's easy to pull them later if I have to wait so no big deal. I also have a set (of 4) 05+ Tacoma springs. So, I'm debating on doing the rears up front, Taco springs in rear, or doing the Taco springs all the way around. The springs are 53" so I should be able to just follow the usual Chevy or Ford path. Much, much more to come. Stay tuned!

Sam, glad the truck did well for you. I am interested to see how the spring swap goes for you. Are you swapping computer and all when you do the engine? Did you get the cluster too, seems that since your dash is pretty empty, a custom mount and some trim and you would be set up for monitoring the new power plant.

I also envy your "shop" and as I mentioned before, if that donor has any good interior parts that aren't spoken for I would be interested.

I also owe you a phone call for the switch and was thinking about putting that credit toward a new grill badge. I will give you a call tomorrow sometime to work out the details.

I am going to have the whole truck so I will have the cluster there but I don't know if someone has already spoken for it (or any interior pieces for that matter.) The truck was actually purchased as a parts truck by ACC. The only parts I really have claim to are the engine (and related accessory parts needed), the wiring harness, and the ecu. I can talk to Mike about the other parts. I'm sure everything is for sale. I don't know everything about the truck but its an 87 (pretty sure) 4Runner, 4WD, auto. I know it has power Windows and rear window, which all work, and an inclinometer, which I know is already spoken for. The auto trans and transfer are also sold.

Edit: It will be a while for the spring swap. Engine is def first on the list.

Well if the dash is solid/ uncracked and gray then have him put my name on it. Seats if they are not ruined and gray, and other interior bits. Who should I email/ PM/ call to see what bits might be available.

And from reading the GSMTR thread sounds like you had a pretty wild ride. Did the motor mount let completely go or just crack?

I think Mike at ACC is the one you need to talk to. I'll call him in a little while and see what the deal is.

The motor mounts are both broken. I think one was already either broken or cracked and that led to both failing. I'm probably going to order the TG bomb proof mounts when I do the swap. Guaranteed for life.

I got the skinny on the dash and other related pieces. Give me a call when you have time to discuss.

Going to pick up the heart transplant victim, er... donor on Saturday. I'll post some pics. The truck is being parted out so if anyone has a Runner and needs some parts, shoot me a PM.

A few pics of the victim... er, donor.

The heart:

This thing is pretty awesome. Power everything! The top is in excellent condition and the interior looks amazing considering the year. Everything on this truck is for sale except the engine, trans, and transfer, and all the a/c components. There has been some interest on a lot of the interior and a few other pieces. Email or PM for more info. I will also be posting up a list of what's available and what's not in the classified/parting out section.

Edit: There are a bunch more pictures in my albums.

IT'S ALIVE!!!

The engine of course. Not the swap. I'll start on that tomorrow.

Got the trans unbolted last night. Going to pull it today some time. Everything is disconnected for the engine except the a/c lines and p/s lines. Will work on that sometime this weekend. Between the limited time I have to work on it and pulling parts off to sell I haven't made much progress. Oh well.

(I strongly believe that the top bellhousing bolts were put in by the Hulk ~238K miles and ~25 years ago.)

Man! This thing has a serious transmission! Good thing I had a couple helping hands and a transmission jack...

Well it helps that the t-case is mostly integrated into the auto trans because of the oiling system, etc.

Dude. That thing is crazy big/heavy for a dang mini truck. Reminds me of the 5 speed 4wd set up in my 96 Runner. The rear drive shaft was like 2 feet long because the trans/transfer was like 6 ft long!

:hmm: Run the A/C for the cab? Hotlanta and all that logic. :grinpimp:

;p:lol:

Man I wish!

Someone already laid claim to the A/C!

I'll have to stick with my redneck A/C:

Edit: My truck did have A/C. Some PO removed it... probably for more HP.

A little update on the 22RE removal:

Got the motor pulled today. As I was disconnecting everything and talking to one of the techs yesterday, we realized that some very important stuff is actually plugged into the front end harness (fuel injector resistor, MAF, igniter, etc) so it looks like I'll have to take pretty much all the wiring out. There are some things inside that are important as well. The circuit opening relay is inside on the passenger side and the fuse panel that has all the relays and fuses is in the driver side kick panel... This could get interesting. So far I have pulled the trans and transfer, removed the dash, removed the A/C (condenser, lines, evaporator, drier, etc.), pulled the engine, and started removing the wiring.

On to the picters!!!

Looking pretty empty!

The donor heart on ice, waiting to be transplanted into it's new home:

Fuel injector resistor, and fuse panel. Will be needed for transplant.

Igniter and wiring for MAF. Also, needed...

Wiring that goes to the auto trans shifter, 4wd shifter, A/C, and center console. Probably will not need any of it but it's tied into the dash harness and I don't know what circuits are connected sooo........

Fuse panel, relays, ATM control, etc. Will need the fuse panel and a good portion of these bits...

The complete A/C system (minus the compressor). Sadly, not going into my truck. I pulled it for the guys at ACC who will be installing it into a customer's truck.

Working on the dash harness. You have to be super careful on these older cars and trucks. When they stamp the metal parts of the dash the edges are often RAZOR sharp.

There's an ECU connector here. Two plug straight into the engine harness, this one runs to the fuse block under the hood. I'm pretty sure it supplies power to the ECU... Probably going to need that...

Found this little guy hiding up in the kick panel area... pretty important...
