Hey everyone, sorry for the delays, the weather has not been cooperating. Not to mention the work schedule has not been cooperating either. My motivation is definitely lacking. Come Friday, I'll be back at it.

The transfer case is coming along. I started working on the parking brake assembly. I need to make a bolt run. Don't have enough new bolts to finish the transfer case. Also need to order the parking brake pads and springs. Maybe next weekend I'll start tearing into the transmission.

I just came across your project last night, you have it right! Greatness lies within the details! The discipline and hard work you are exhibiting is very commendable, and the end result will reflect this. The proof will be that YOU know you did it right, and any (sane) like minded person will know it also. Personally, I couldn't be more impressed, I anxiously await the build and final result!

Finished disassembling the transmission today. Was a little upset yesterday at the fact that my shipment of new bolts and parking brake rebuild kit got delayed until Monday. Looks like no more work on the differential until bolts arrive. The transmission had a little play at the input shaft, but nothing terribly out of the ordinary. There was also a little water in the case, and some surface rust on the gears. Not to worry, it'll be "good as new" before too long.

Here is a "before" shot of the tranny and differential. 33 years of grime.:wrench:

By the way, I am still upset that the differential parts aren't here. I will be out of town next 2 weekends. That puts us at the end of the month before the differential is complete.:bang:

Blasted a few parts today and actually got some paint on the case. I'll probably be back at tomorrow night, assuming the parts for the transfer case arrive as re-scheduled.

Where are you sourcing your parts?

The differential rebuild kits were purchased through SOR. Man-a-fre supplied the transfer case build kit. I have not ordered the rebuild kit for the transmission yet. I will be out of town through the 19th, and couldn't be here for delivery. I am looking at getting the build kit for the tranny through Drivetrain.com. They have the lowest cost that I have found. If anyone knows of where I can beat the $208 price, please let me know.

Subscribed...great build.

Your transfer case is so clean, you could eat off of it. Hope to do all this to my 77 some time and watching you gives me courage that I can do it too. Thanks for sharing your work and passion for details.

If you saw my shop, you would think twice about eating anything in there. No, seriously, you guys are great. I'm really thinking hard about rerouting the exhaust and installing an aux fuel tank while I have the tub off. What do you guys think. The purist in me says no, but I'm all for the extra fuel capacity.

The output shaft hammers out of the case towards the front. The high gear has to be wedged into place to hammer out the shaft. I tore up a couple of nice wooden wedges. Got it out, placed new bearing, pressed back in, realized I forgot a washer(spacer). Start over and hammer out again. use a deadblow. I recommend getting a repair manual. It isn't really clear how these shafts join sometimes. the whole proceedure was a PITA.

Hey man you need to speed it up at this rate it will take you years to complete the chassis is the easy part the drive train will be tougher . Grandma slow but she's old and so will we be if you don't get goin.

I couldn't have done it without your "John Henry" arm. Who needs a shop press?
