It's self-reflection time. I enjoy the idea of owning a 40 more than actually owning a 40.

If you enjoy white-knuckling at 42mph, the feeling of sitting on shifting-cinder blocks, fuel-smell and tractor steering then maybe this lifestyle is for you, for me it is not. I have probably put a couple thousand miles on this thing since I bought it 5 years ago.

Ok, here are the pros and cons

Cons:
-It's a 40
-There is some filler in the rear quarters
-The weber carb needs a tune (this is probably the first thing I would just go ahead and replace)
-The paint is not original and is decent but not great
-Battery is currently dead

Pros:
-Genuinely a good runner. Was told engine was rebuilt, all inputs work well, transmission shifts well, 4LO, etc.
-OEM soft top and steel bows
-Interior was stripped and line-x'd
-Frame/Axles/Tub all very rust free and in good shape. (Have some pics from the PO before the Line-x was applied, will post below).

I try to not keep track, but I probably have $17k-$20k in this thing. I think $13k is a fair sale price.

Here are a few pics:

Looks like a solid truck!
Agree driving and enjoying them it is not for everyone, but I love it!

Jump in the water is fine!!

You probably just need caster correction shims on your front axle to keep it from wandering, and a fuel pressure regulator for the Webber. This truck could easily be made enjoyable for you, but someone's going to get a bargain.

‘75 Soft Top version with tail gate rare find and great price. It’s worth it. <= ‘74 turn signal lights? Photos of dash knobs and gauges?

GLWS and hope you had a few fun memories.

@jayp2 - I expect my shipping costs to crazy expensive. Give this guy his asking price and you can slide in front of me. Otherwise I will know more tomorrow or Friday (I have been messaging the owner directly).

Definitely a few fun memories. Some light trails, cruising around country roads with top/doors off has been fun. Two young kids now and that part just isn't happening anymore.

Unless someone snags it beforehand, will post some more pics of it this weekend.

Worth clarifying a little, the truck actually does not wander. My comments were mostly tongue-and-cheek, but maybe I went too far lol

The weber does suck though, that part is not a joke

@Bludozer - if you look at the dash, on the far left just below the A-pillar, is there a circle cut in there? My understanding is that's how to tell if it is a Factory Soft Top

Anyone else have ways to tell? I heard that from Jeremiah Proffitt, and I don't trust that guy

Like this?? if that hole is open?

If things fall through with those in front of me., let me know im located in Western NC and could be up your way to pick up quickly! Fantastic Write up!

Good luck to all, I hope it is sold by the weekend, it is just a road trip away and really don’t need anything else in or near the garage!

A bit of sorting, Proper suspension set up for caster and worn joint elimination, dependable power steering and either a Holley 2 barrel set up or if it were mine a Holley Sniper and this is a different truck!
