1974 FJ40 Parking Brake Handle

Hello,
I am the new owner of a 74 FJ and the parking brake wont stay engaged. I have pulled the parking brake and looked at it and it looks and functions fine. I believe the issue is that the prong that actually hold the handle out is broken. I have scoured parts websites and it seems that no one sells the handle assembly and there isnt a replacement for the prong. Has anyone had a similar issue? How were you able to fix it?

suggest moving over to classifieds section and post a wanted with a pic of what you are needing. someone will have some parts that fit. there are plenty of used parts houses as well that you may need to become acquainted with.

I am lost on your terminology… are you talking that it will not stay when u pull it out? It doesn’t lock in?

The metal edge on the wedge that holds it in wears … I believe in mine I bent it down a tad so it grasps again

Yeah, put a "wanted" ad in the classified section. You can probably get a complete assembly for a reasonable price.
