The fuel pump inlet seems to close to the oil filter bracket causing a pinch in the line. First pic is the before, second is the after (currently doing a resto-mod). It seems that a previous owner replaced the original inlet fitting with the barbed hose fitting. I'd like to change this to something better. Suggestions welcome. Thanks!

IMHO that fitting could be shortened with a hacksaw, a tight fitting hose and a good clamp will provide enough contact to seal and stay there. Or you could buy an angled unit to thread in and point away from the block. Lots of options, I think the threads are British pipe tap.

Mine looks to be clocked a little differently than yours...

Yeah, the inlet is threaded on this angled port instead of the one pointing toward the oil filter bracket. Looks like I have 2 options if I keep this pump: 1) source a 90˚ angle connector or 2) rebuild the pump and while it's apart plug the current inlet port and open and thread the other.

The engine is an F... build date was 6/74. They changed to the 2F in 8/74.

If they changed to a 2F in 8/74 that's news to me I always seen 1/79 as the date. 1/79 the fuel pump could no longer be rebuilt. That also have a return port for the line coming from the carburetor. If I was at my other home probably have pump with the different ports. The early pumps did not use a barbed connection. Straight across was not a problem.

for your 74 you need the 74-79 style pump (23100-61011). It has the fitting on the next boss so it points away from the oil filter housing. You have the earlier pump, the earlier F engines don’t have that oil filter housing there.
The later pump is backwards compatible on the earlier engines but not the other way around for the reason you’ve found.
