Hi, I'm looking to swap My stock inline 6 with a 400 small bock I have, does anyone happen to have the dimensions for an adapter plate and any advice/tips? Was looking to make it myself either laser cut or machining it. Thanks

When asking for help year, market, model helps. Advanced Adapters made/makes bell housing to go from sbc to either 3 or 4 toyota tranny.

I think the 3 speed adapter is a spacer that goes between the stk bellhousing and engine. The 4 speed conversion uses a replacement bell housing.

Here I forgot to add the transmission details, so I'll try my best to give what I know. So, it has the three on the tree which would be the j30 3 speed and it has the stock engine, I think. my grandpa had a parts one so he swapped parts around so it should be stock but I'm not 100% certain.

The AA kit seems reasonably priced.

I sent you a pm but essentially: placement is going to be key for cooling, especially with a 400.
It’s going to be really tight with the column shift and you may not be able to keep the column shift.
What’s the reason for the swap? Is the straight 6 bad or tired? Just want more power? It’s not going to be a cheap swap if you do it right. Proper radiator, driveline modifications, adapter, clutch, exhaust….. In my opinion, the value also goes down a little with a SBC swap too. Goes down a lot if done poorly.

But if you go through with it, I’m local to you and engine swaps are fun!

I'm not a V-8 guy but I don't understand sticking with the 3 speed
I think there are better transmission options if going thru the swap

X2 on this sentiment. The reason I put a 350 in was to get rid of the three speed transmission. It is cool and retro, but a daily driving was a bit much. Some will say the SM465 is barely a step up. I say it’s just enough tractor and just enough civility.

I agree, there are a multitude of choices to put behind a gm a V8. The op needs to figure out how he's going to use his 40. You might consider 4 or 5 speeds. The stk 4 speed is much more refined than the 3 speed. It's pretty robust and shifts great. I ran one for many yrs. Once I started getting into harder wheeling I went to an sm420 for lower gearing. I found the weak link is the 1 piece tcase and it's gearing, so I changed that up too.

My other 40 has a PO installed NV4500 5 speed and it is a blast to drive. Someday I may upgrade to a split tcase for added strength and low range gear reduction options.
