So another update…
I got in the truck to drive to work this morning and it did the same thing. Points gap must not have been the issue.
After work today I threw in my old dizzy from the F motor and drove for a while; no issues. So while I still don’t know what it is I think have it narrowed down to something in the distributor.
I guess next step would be to replace points, condenser and cap and see if that does it.

You should be able to look at the cap, rotor bug plus the points and tell if they are bad,. Capacitor is bad when points burn up quickly or its bulged/leaking. You could change those items plus the plug wires and coil if you want to (save the old ones).

I suspect its something internal, worn gear, bushing, broken or weakened spring type of problem.

Hey all just wanted to follow up. I was out of town this weekend and been busy with some health issues in the family. But before I left I replaced the cap, rotor, condenser and points. So far so good. Drove around Friday, drove to work today. I also put in the old ND coil that the truck had when I bought it. I'm going to see if that helps with not burning up my points so fast. Anyway thanks again for all the input!

Burning points, some thoughts - capacitor is bad or wrong value. Points contaminated with too much oil/grease on the contact surfaces, and lastly alignment on point faces can be canted. The contacts should be platinum/iridium, the layer is not real thick - so you can easily file threw it, and then the base metal will not last long as a contact.

Got your message last Shane. Package will go out today. I am out all day. $21

Made it up to south lake and cruising around. Everything seems to be running good; glad to be out of the heat of Bishop.
