Got in about another 3 hours tonight on the LV. I pretty much managed to get the drip rail finished up.
What I wanted to do and did tonight is make an attachment point for a shoulder harness type seat belt. I fabbed up 2 - 1/8" plates that mirrored the indenation on the B pillar (you LV owners know what I'm talking about), should also be pics of it. Roughly 8" x 3" with rounded corners. Then 1 1/2" down I welded a 10 mm x 1.25 nut and sprayed them both up. I drilled 7 holes in the B pilllar, 6 to plug weld and 1 for the bolt. I cut a 3 1/2" x 1" hole in the drip rail directly above the B pillar. I drilled a hole in the top of the plate I made so I could attach a string to it and fish it down the hole I made. Once down the hole I lined up my bolt hole and nut and started the bolt. Once the bolt was started I could remove the string and tighten the bolt up hard. Once the bolt was tight it pulled the inner plate tight up against the inside and the holes I drilled. I then plug welded all 6 holes and ground them down, then removed the bolt. I didn't have to because it would have been covered up, but I decided to weld up the rectangular hole I made above the B pillar. Basiclly cut a 3 1/2" x 1" piece of metal, welded a nail to it so I could hold it directly flush with the hole I made. Tacked it in, ground my nail off, finished welding and ground flush.
Instant shoulder mount attachment point!
In the event of an accident it would have pull that entire plate completely out and through the B pillar, should be plenty strong. Not sure where I'm going to attach the retract unit yet, probaby somewhere on the front seat frame, similiar to a 75+ FJ40.
Had to do a little work on one of the inner pieces, cut and weld in a new piece, not a big deal. Also primed a couple parts.
Next is to clean up the entire drip rail on the body and prime it good. Do a little white painting on the rear end in the hinge area and then start welding those front and rear inner pieces I salavaged back in. Then make the inner structure down both sides. Then onto the roof.
Can't do any work tomorrow night, hopefully Thursday morning or Friday night, we'll see how it works out. Hoping to get a good weekend in on this weekend, but might take the FJ40 to another car show on Saturday, so that day might be shot for woking on the LV
