Ok, I have some pins here... Like Root... I have a few pics.

What I notice is this.

If you put in the pins... opposite each other... ie lay them both out and put one pin with head facing east and one pin with pin faceing west... you will have a set... one for left side of door one for right.

I only have the doors... so 1 - 8 are shown.

Here is the passenger REAR door.

Here is the passenger side Rear Door close up of hinges... pulled out and set on top of the door as they would slide into the door.

Bottom of the door would be 7/8 with 8 sliding into the door with the HEAD of the pin faceing the roof.

Top of the door would be 5/6 with 6 sliding into the door with the HEAD of the pin faceing the roof.
MVC-123F.webp

Here is the passenger side FRONT Door close up of hinges... pulled out and set on top of the door as they would slide into the door.

Bottom of the door would be 3/4 with 3 sliding into the door with the HEAD of the pin faceing the roof.

Top of the door would be 1/2 with 1 sliding into the door with the HEAD of the pin faceing the roof.

And if that hasnt confused you yet... here are all the hinges together... and Im done.... I dont know if I can give these hinges full confidence as they have been taken off prior... but they did fit well when all the doors were still on the truck... all 3 doors.

Last 3 pics to help you out Matt.

Any particular reason you did not bother to label them before dis-assembly?..

That is Resto-101, at least it was in 1986 when I started doing it....:D

Gosh Dan,

You are going to give me real competiton for the mr. obvious title....

Things are looking great Matt!

Sometimes the obvious is so obvious that you can't see it..................

This in no way diminishes the caliber of work accomplished. But, it is a bit odd that such a simple detail be lost amongst such fabrication skills.

The numbers could possibly have something to do with off-set or some other fitment/matching issues. Someplace in my office I have an antique microfiche that may shed some light on that possibility. I will look around and see if I can find it.

If you have the microfish, then you trully are a parts geek

Mikesta, thanks for all the detail and the pics, that was absolutely awesome and what I was looking for to confirm Treeroots stuff :) . I think were all in agreement here that the hinges go together in a sequential #'d order, so we've got that figured out.

As far as placement, I'm going with my previous post, at least to start with. I'm sure it will be right, but I'm still kinda thinking the reason Treeroot has some different stuff might because of fitting at the factory, just a guess. At the very least I can pound all the pins back in with new bushings and won't have to take them apart again. Worst case scenerio is that I have to move a set of hinges from one door to another, but I bet I'm right the first time the way I plan on installing them.

Thanks again Treeroot and Mikesta for the pics and info!!! Help when you need it, this is awesome

Just got back from my body man buddy's shop. Got about 4 hours in this evening. Cut a portion of the other rear quarter out. He started fabbing up an entire new section of quarter panel while I cut out more rust and brackets that were underneath it. I fabbed up a few parts and got them welded in. Tomorrow evening I have blasting to do and priming, then more parts fabbing.

I would have posted pics, but I forgot my camera up there :frown: , so I will have to double up on the pics tomorrow :)

Thanks again, Matt

Mistake......of course. Didn't see the #'s because of rust and paint, and I assumed which was wrong of me, that they were all the same. They sure look like it from 2 feet away? Once I started blasting and the #'s became apparent I realized that I may have a problem. 2nd, anything I do in my life as far as projects go, I kick ass and try to take names later. Hey, the air was fresh, compressor fully charged, air tools fired up and parts are a flying.... :) Right or wrong, just the way I do it. Just trying to gett'ir done!!!

Will this be the last mistake I make on this project, hell no. :D I'm sure there are many, many more to come and fortunetly I have the help of many fellow mudders to get me through my stupidity :D

And if you have an antique microfish of these hinges that would explain the # system and order.............of course that would be unbelievable and much appreciated if you could share with the group.

Thanks, Matt

How are those bushings working out? Cant wait to see the results... and hope they are still available to purchase... if they are available.

by the way.. how in the world did you get the lv on that trailer with the rotisery and how did you secure it... looked like a top heavy accident waiting to happen... I actually shriveled in my chair when I saw the first pic. Glad it got there... expose the secrets!!! No jedi mind tricks though

Oh yes, the hinge thing has not gone away yet. I have a little more insight to this now. I brought the hinges into work this morning to take a closer look and pin them together. This is what I'm observing.

Hinges 1,2,3,4 if laid flat in line with each other all have the same pin distance from the mounting surface to the pin center.

Hinges 5,6,7,8 if laid flat in line with each other all have the same pin distance from the mounting surface to the pin center.

Hinges 1,2,5,6 - the 4 bolt patterns on those hinges are all different, you could NOT put those hinges in any other spot because they could not line up. The bolt patterns are specific to each hinge.

Hinges 3,4,7,8 - the 4 bolt patterns on those hinges are all the same, you could put those hinges in 2 different locations. This may explain why Treeroot has a 7/8 hinge in the same location Mikesta has a 3/4

Hinges 5,6,7,8 when pinned together lay completely flat on a table.

Hinges 1,2,3,4 when pinned cannot lay flat on a table, the hinge will bind at about a 20 degree angle.

I think I have everything correctly pinned together and it all seems to make sense. Why Treeroot has that 7/8 hinge in the front doors lower hinge location?? I don't know? Like I said, 3/4 and 7/8 are the only 2 hinges sets you could switch like that, the only difference would be pin distance.

Door bushing seem to be ok? At least I think so, I'll wait to say to much until the other guys get theres and see what they think, and yes, still have some, got 200, over half are gone.

Actually me and a buddy pushed it up onto the trailer, wasn't to hard. 2 straps in each corner/ 8 total. Not top heavy at all, I have those 6 ft wide legs on there so it sits pretty nice :)

Matt

I just dug out my old fiche. It only identifies part numbers and makes no mention of the numbers stamped on the plates, sorry Matt.

Can you hook me up with a set (of door bushings) ? I will gladly pay you tuesday.

If that was directed at me, no. The OEM ones are discontinued.

More directed toward Matt... but If you said yes, I may have screamed like a little girl.

Little out of sequence, because I will hopefully have more pics of yesterdays progress and tonights progress posted this evening.

I went home at lunch, took about 45 min. to bend these up and get them welded together. There were 3 on the right side after we remove the quarter that were totally rotted out except for the one you see in the pic. It will be more obvious after I post pics of that tonight.

Figured I would get this done, so tonight I can stay ahead of my buddy on that quarter, need to get the inner guts done first.
