Awesome find! I too was digging on the PVC defroster. Would have been more period correct to have made them from black iron pipe fittings though! :grinpimp:

When you get to the electrical side of things, contact me. I have most everything you would need to fix your harness or I can build you a new factory spec harness using all new wire and connectors and using your harness as a template. I can see several mods that were done like adding a later alternator. I can build a harness all stock, or can accommodate certain mods.

Why do you think it was Tan? I'd lean towards red....
under all the previous coats of paint..orange, red, undercoating, etc. is the original tan.
I enjoy the discovery, education, history of old cars, and have had more than my share of them..I'm familiar with where/how to look for original paint.
Thanks for your reply.

I have reproduction taillight brackets for the 64-68, along with the OE tail lights.

I agree with @White Stripe on picking a different color. The dune beige doesn't 'belong' on a'64.

I wanted to paint my '65 dune beige, but back then, I didn't have the wherewithal to track it down. Now I am happier it turned out that way. The factory red, white or blue are all really nice color choices for the '64.

Yes, it does the have the ever popular Delco Remy alternator.
I've replaced many harnesses on various cars..thank you for your offer, I will keep it in mind, if I come across something foreign to me.

Well you not far from me, I have 3 early cruisers, 64 fj45lv, 65 fj40 and 67 fj45 truck....the 1st 2 are very very original, so if you want take a look someday let me know. also have all the early parts books , brochures etc.

Gotta wonder why the dash is red.....hard top was horizon blue...once.

That's funny..I already removed the PVC defroster piping though.
Thank you

The dash re-paint was done very poorly.
I hear you though, why do people do what people do.
Thank you for your offer, it is appreciated, and I may take you up on it.

This FJ needs so much work. Good luck to you in bringing it back to life! Tan or red doesn't really matter. What color do are you going to paint it?

Probably the best 1964-specific thread on the forum when you have time: destins 1964 fj40 FST restore thread

Page 124 has several pictures of the dash layout you want to see.

The series of four-holes you asked about may be for the jump seats?

Thank you for sharing your project. Enjoy.

I ordered the hub caps (will seek out 5 original wheels),

Also, there is a series of four bolt/screw holes just below the ribbed portion and directly behind the doors on both sides, that I assume were for mounting something..not sure what, or if someone did that later.
I will post pics, the holes you can see from the interior pic.

First, I probably can help with early rivited wheels. I would have to go out to where I have the wheels to see just how many I have, but they are off my 71. I'm between Albany and Salem Oregon, about 75 miles south of the Columbia River. Just looked up the time by I-5 from Centralia, about 2 1/2 hours to my place which is only 1 1/2 miles off of I-5.

Are the bolt holes you ask about the ones visible in the first pic of post 16? If so, they most likely were from mounting jerry cans. That seems like a very poor place for them as they probably would have interfered with visibility from the mirrors, but the spacing and pattern seems the same as needed for the can racks.

I just went back to post #1, and your pics there. From what I see in the first four pics, those holes had to have been to mount jerry cans. And, from the pic showing the mirrors, if they are original, rear visibility would have been barely outside the mounted cans.

Best of luck getting that back to original. You've got a diamond in the rough there!

ps- Just took another look at your first post pics. I don't see a lot of rust showing. Was this from east (dryer part of the state) of the Cascades? Hopefully there is not a lot of bondo. Any bondo would have to be old, and I would think rust would be showing through old bondo by now.

I got a pile of early wheels, the rivet style, 4 of them are painted pewter(look like new)....just came off my 45LV when I put new welded OEM wheels on it....which you can still get for under $100 each(and they work with disc brakes) If it were me....I'd get new OEM wheels, they come in the correct color for early cruisers.......black

the hub caps you can get from the dealer are not correct for your year, but there are very nice reproductions out there for a good price

It needs work, but work I enjoy.
Color..leaning towards the original tan, but time will.
In the process of taking it apart now.
Thankyou

Thanks for that lead on the '64 thread.
You may be right about the jump seats, others thought maybe gas cans.
Thanks, again.

I'm interested in the wheels.
Yes, those are the holes I was referring to.
I agree poor choice for jerry cans.
Thank you

It is solid, PO was into spreading undercoating over things, which helped it.
I've been removing bumperettes, tailgate, all bracketry, doors, seats, etc., in the process of getting it down to the bare tub, so have had a good look at it.
Thanks again
