Nice looking rig....what number is there before the FJ in your serial number? Looking at the short posts behind your door, and the lack of heater air intake on your driver's side, I would have said it was a '64.

Wow...I don't really see a lot of room for restoring there...mostly original or period correct, and very clean. Great rig! Any chance you could post a close-up picture of the side reflectors?? I am tring to get a better idea on what the original hardware to install the reflectors would have been. Thanks
nice old tojo. make sure those lines to the oil filter are in good condition then put it straight to work!
i say 1965ish; based on the combination of air vent in the lower windscreen frame and those over-centre latches to hold the windscreen raised. all 63-64 i have seen have a bolt together bracket instead of that latch.
cant see your drivers seat properly but it gives the impression of the earlier pipe "fixed" type as opposed to the later fancy adjustable seat. also notice the lack of bonnet mounted windscreen latches.
as far as 45s go it seems at the end of 64 (therabouts) they changed cabs from the solid cab sliding rear window type to removable top (with your style latches) and the chassis from 3 cab mounting points down earh side to 2. seems at the same time they dropped the year prefix from the chasis number (to read like yours). and shortly after lost the under windscreen vent.
i dont know if the shorty forty's underwent structural overhaul about then.
that fuel cap looks about right for later 60s the earlier one was a larger plain chrome disc.
i have never seen the american style air intake on any australian tojo.
thats a great old 40. we cant allow you to run generator and original style fuel pump with those ugly plastic master cylinder resivours though!

Not really. There should be a number just before the FJ in your vin number...VIN: ?FJ40198864 ...if there isn't, then I think 1965 and 1966 are the only years not to have a digit here...but they would have had a brass tag on the firewall. Otherwise, well at least over here, a 1965 should have had a slanted vent/heater air intake on the right side just forward of the kick vent.

Nice one, don`t know what you want to restore, what I would do is...
My plans with this vehicle is to restore to as original as possible. When I post some pictures up I would love if anyone could chime in with any suggestions of what needs to be done.
So far i have spotted the wing mirror, and chromed bumpers as the only non-original items.

Something is not right with the VIN. It may be a Australia thing. Read the VIN on the right front side of the frame. First it should have a 3 or 4 followed by FJ40. Then five numbers not six numbers. My 68 is only in the fifty thousand range. Yours is to early to be over hundred thousand.

Like the gas cap the roof vent was a option. Not sure if is still available in 64 but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. The lack of a high B pillar points to 64 but the rear view looks like a 63 or older. Could a late 63 or early 64 model. Which ever it is it a vary clean cruiser. I belive those amber lights on the back were added to meet Australian road requirements. At this point that's all I would do is clean it up a little. So rush into anything to quick. You might do something you'll regret later.

I would also go with late 63 or early 64...definitly not a 65...as this rigs got the short boards.
the frame number is way off...the tailights are correct...but...# is more like a 75?

Tool box under the passenger's seat is a 64 or later. Same for the latches that hold the windshield up.
That is what I figured when I first saw it...'64...but wasn't sure about the heater air intake. I mean I know that it was a '65 slanted thing, but not sure if this was the case overseas as well.
