I'm considering a purchased of this 1960 FJ25 with 61,000 miles and reportedly rust free. I've always wanted an FJ25 but not sure if this is a good start. I'd like to just buy one that is DONE!

This has not run in 11 years, partially restored 18 years ago. Been in storage for a long time. All I have to go on are these four pictures. What do you 25-savvy guys think of what you can see here. No clue on the value of these.

Thanks,
Greg

Wow, it's good to see one so complete, Don't know about rear seats or top or wipers from the photo's. Value? I would use FJFJFJ"s 1962 FJ40 which sold for $75,000.00 as a current market base, That would put a restored FJ25 at $100,000.00 or so. Try to get a vin # and more photo's. Good Luck, John

I have a few more pictures dated 2009. It's definitely dustier now. :) I can post them or email them to you.

I remember this truck.... Wasn't the asking price ridiculously high on this at one time?

What's ridiculously high? It's got no steering column, does not run and it missing the top and a number of other items. Several bonus holes in the tub as well.

May not be to far off. Have we seen one that is a 100% correct?

I remember this truck but can't remember the price. I have a feeling in todays market it may be more in line with what they are selling.

Steering column is part of the steering box so both are missing. Those are pretty easy to find. Not much different in the steering boxes thru the 67 model year FJ40. The steering wheel and turn signal switch are another story. Those are FJ25 only. I do not seeing a shifter for the transmission. I believe some of those internal parts are NLA if that was why it went off the road. I believe last time this showed up I question if it has FJ25 wheels. Not sure if that was resolved. If the wheel are 15" off a FJ40 they do not fit the front axle without spacers. Rear seats are missing and those too were FJ25 only. Canvas missing is something most of us are dealing with. Currently only one OEM original top I know of in the US that is usable. But the project to make repo seems to be on track again. Having the doors and bows is a plus. This is a restorable FJ25 but it's is no where near being 100% correct. Parts for the FJ25 are probably the hardest to find for any Land Cruiser if you exclude the BJ which I believe no one in the US is trying to restore. There are a number of people looking for parts making it even harder. If your looking for a 100% correct FJ25 one might show up in a few years but like John P. (Pardion) said it won't come cheap.

I don't know do we have a thread that shows what parts are FJ25 only and parts that were used for a year or two in the FJ40? It would serve as a buying guide to know what your going to need to restore one. The FJ25 classified section is small enough for a person search and see how often these parts come up for sale.

Wow, it is all relative. I had rejected craigs but maybe I'll give it a go. With a twenty year old resto, top, and running driving I should be in the 50k range. ;)

I have an agreed upon price with additional pictures on the way. We will see.... I was told two of the wheels are original and two are not. They are 16". Also that blinkers or turn signals had been added and it originally did not have these. The steering column is there but needs to be reinstalled. The steering wheel was not original either.

I believe the CL ad is listing the cruzer at $16,000

I guess it is all relative.

In today's market that probably isn't a bad price if your just dealing with filling holes and not rust when you figure the value restored. Need a good frame and tub to start with. I have increased the value on my old cruisers based on what the 62 hard top sold for. Anyone who is going to go thru all the work of restoring a 25 to original is going to have a idea of what it is worth.

I see two ways of owning a original FJ25. If you have deep pockets and buy one if and went it becomes available or restore it yourself. Which in most cases involves buying a few parts vehicles. Even then your looking for parts. If your lucky you have parts someone else needs and can trade for parts you need. Very rare you find hard to find parts up for sale by themselves. Low import/production numbers and over fifty years old make these a challenge to restore. Even the one at Toyota's museum is not a 100% restoration.

I think it's all in your marketing Jim. I wouldn't sell my grey 25 non running and rusted floor for what your trying to sell yours for. You are probably are closer at the $50K price than what your asking now. Someone would need do some work like putting in a correct engine but everything is minor. You had the rear sill and crossmember corrected last year. Rockers are easy compared to that.

Ok, it sounds like there are other FJ25's for sale here. Is that correct? Jim, you have one for sale?

Seriously doubt it could have been imported without turn signals. Never seen a FJ25 here without them. When I hear a statement like this it throws up a red flag. How much does the seller really know about these vehicles and how honest is he.

If your looking to restore 100% do your homework.

Front bumper, three correct 25 wheels, two vacuum wipers and arms, rear jump seats, rear license plate bracket, turn signal switch and handle (most handles are broken). Probably other items I'm forgetting. How many of these items are included? Search the classified to see the last time these were offered for sale. Not trying talk you out of buying it just letting you know what your in for.

I would put it back together so it can be enjoyed and do the best I could with available or obtainable early cruiser parts. Then when an original part becomes available you do the swap-a-roo. Not being 100% original would impact the value but life is a compromise.
