16.2 mpg was best in 2000mile trip averaged about 75mph some on the Blue Ridge parkway but over 50% in situations with long grades... very lightly loaded me. wife, 12yo, & the dog and small bags... about 50% on cruise control...

drove non stop both ways (except fuel stops about 300mile range) from Memphis to DC
worst was 14.6mpg that was in metro DC the 16.2 was on my ONLY tank of premium fuel the very next tank I ran the only no ethanol fuel this truck had ever had (as far as I know) and dropped to 15.8mpg every other fill up was regular 87 octane which usually got 15.5mpg. the premium was 50cents more a gallon.. 2.39 vs 1.89 gal. so I needed to get 18+ mpg to make it worth it to run.

this was in the 2001 lx470 my wife drives, with the new tires and I'd just greased the front bearings and new brakes the day before we left ( we did not plan this trip until 2 hrs before we left so the work was not planned) truck now has about 181k on it...

Seems about right for a loaded down truck. I see ~18 mpg going 70 on the freeway, and even 19+ with an extra light foot on 50mph back roads. But with a bunch of people and a heavier foot 16 is all I get.

16 mpg is good considering 15yr old 3ton truck with a 4speed tranny and 4.11 rear end-

Look at current light trucks which have 8spd transmissions V8 motors and rear ratios like 3.21, 3.55 that might get 19-20mpg on a good day. Not significantly better IMO.

Just wished they had designed the 100 with a 32 gallon tank, or offered a secondary tank as a factory option.

Me too. especially for the longer road trips. A 500 mile highway range is pretty basic, dunno what Toyota was thinking with only a 25 gallon tank on these.

With the factory sub tank that other regions got standard you have 38 US gallons - I wonder what the magic formula was for deciding what regions got what features for the 100/470 platforms? probably had something to do with average miles between fuel stations.

I bet it was all about the target sales market. Soccer moms don't need 32gal of petrol to go to the mall.

My car has the sub tank but I rarely use it.
Mine is 36 Gallons I believe (90L+46L)
Much want.

I'm shocked there is no one putting together a full oem sub tank kit. I know I'm not the only person that would be all over it.
