Need to get my brakes worked on - routine stuff - pads and possible rotors, etc. Never had brake work done since I took ownership and recently moved to the SD area. I need a good shop I can trust to do the job right, not cut corners or try and screw me. Happy to go up into the OC as well, within reason.

I can't recommend a shop since I am not in that area of the country, but incase you are not aware to remove the front rotors the hub flanges need to be removed and the bearings repacked. It is a more involved job then with most cars.

Trux Auto in Mira Mesa area of SD. They only work on toyota/Lexus. They use toyota OEM parts so not the cheapest, but do good work. My 100 series is at 365K and running strong. I tried 3 or 4 shops for settling on Darryl at Trux auto and have been with them for the last 15 years.

Why not do it yourself? Nobody will care as much as you about your rig! Pretty straightforward job even if you have no experience, you will get some new tools and the knowledge and confidence to tackle these general maintenance jobs in the future. All the info you need is on this site and in the FSM free to download in the resource section. The whole point of this site is to learn how to fix and maintain these vehicles.

x2 for Trux. I bought a 100 from a gentleman who only used Trux for over 10 years and the truck is in immaculate condition and runs amazingly. I have a folder with tons of their receipts and when seeing that they used OEM parts I was confident with my purchase.

I have used them for my last two oil changes but the last time I was in there something felt off. The technician seemed hurried - they claimed to have greased the driveshaft but that didn't seem to be the case. They didn't even add a sticker to indicate when to get the oil changed again - not the end of the world but just another indicator of being in a rush. I can give them another try - I certainly respect the opinion of the folks here.

I just don't have the time for a million reasons I cant get into on this thread. If I could, I would. But for now I am willing to trade money for expertise/time.

I hear ya. I live in the Southbay / Eastlake area so I have personally never been nor do I plan to use them. I‘ll try anything short of engine swaps so there’s that.

Anyway, second chances are great for shops that specialize on our vehicles. May they live on

Anyone familiar with SD Truck Shop? Seems they do the same work as Trux (these guys need different names!). Here is what I was quoted for a brake job - assuming full replacement need for pads and rotors:

Parts:
Pads - front and rear: ~$200
Rotors - front and rear - $500

Labor:
$812 - includes repacking the bearings but does NOT include refinishing

Thoughts?

I would suggest CruiserTech in Laguna Hills. Cesar and his team have done a wonderful job taking care of my 100 series.

RPM Garage was my go to, but they have gotten crazy busy at the newer shop location. Plus it's a bit of a trek from OC to Monrovia.
