To those interested in the winch- It was a Superwinch with an integrated solenoid. I bought some tie bars from Superwinch to go in the place of the solenoid. I cut the mounting tabs off the solenoid and made a couple of new L brackets. Had the solenoid and brackets powdercoated with the bumper. Had to rewire a bit to get it to fit/work right. Then I just sewed a gray vinyl cover because I'm running Technora line. G2G?

I cut the whole bottom casting off that's in this photo.

Sorry it took so long for this. Here are some crappy pics of the platform. The tubing is 1" and there is some angle iron along the sides to hold the upright in position. There is also a couple of short pieces of flat bar also for the upright section. I used 1/4 inch t-nuts throughout and a couple of welded nuts on the angle. The basic dimensions are as follows:

Bottom platform layer is 51"w x 38"l
Top platform is 53"w x 31"l
Upright is 53"w x 8"l
All 3/4 birch ply

The metal frame essentially makes a box, and the upper pieces overhang. The "box" section is 33" front to back (outside dimensions) and 36" wide. It is 15" tall (14" clearance underneath).

Since the upper platform is 2" wider than the lower, there is clearance for the 1" angle iron that is mounted to the underside of the upper platform. This has welded nuts and is the support for the moveable upright. The metal frame has two pieces of square tubing welded together along the forward upper portion. The rearmost tube is bolted to the forward edge of the bottom platform, and the forward tube is available to bolt to the rear edge of the upper platform when it is slid forward into place. Clear as mud?

Also, I'm 6'1", all leg, and with the platform extended (with the upright still up) I have plenty of legroom driving. When you stop for the night you can slide the forward seats forward and lower the upright, giving you a platform length of 77". Add in the little extra space on both ends and there's plenty of room.

This is terrific, thanks for going thru all the effort with this info. Will make it much easier to replicate here on this end.

Hey all. I grabbed some more pics of the platform in the different configurations this morning. Here is another shot in the "stowed" position. This is how I normally have it day to day.

Access from second row

To put it in the "middle" position, you just remove two bolts underneath that attach the top platform to the lower platform.

There's one on each side underneath. Then, remove the "landing pad" and the two legs that are bolted for stowage underneath.

Put them together loosely

And place on second row floor leaning against seat

Slide upper platform forward until it drops into place and rest front on legs

Bolt rear to frame from underneath with four bolts and bolt top of legs to platform

Tighten all bolts. This is the configuration I would put it in before a trip. The front seats can go all the way back and you can put a ton of cargo on top.

Then, when you stop for the night, just slide the front seats forward and undo the star knobs and reattach to lower the upright, giving you 8" more platform.

As you can see, with the seats all the way forward, you have a lot of extra room. You could make the upright taller- in would keep more cargo from sliding forward while up, and give you a much longer platform when down. I made it shorter to keep it pretty much out of sight when up day to day, and I think the platform is plenty long... If you made it longer it would clear the center console no problem.

Here is the clearance to the opening. Remember you lose ~7/8" or so with the platforms stacked.

Remember to use a jamb nut on each turnbuckle to lock them in place. If not, they will come loose and rattle. I'm ocd- I despise rattles. This setup is totally silent.

It's funny- the prices of accessories seem so high- like for drawers, etc. But when you build them yourself you rarely save much. This platform ran about 200 in materials and 2 days of my time. Not to mention the designing and brainstorming prior. So, yeah, I'll give them away!

But please, steal any ideas you like!

Hey all. My cargo/sleeping platform has found a new home, so I started designing a new system. This will coincide with a dual battery install. Things that will be incorporated:

1. Full length drawer on right, fridge on left. (ARB 50qt waiting for a home)
2. 36" Accuride locking slides on drawer and fridge slide
3. Marinco locking 12v plug for fridge
4. 2 more switched 12v outlets
5. Xantrex inverter flush mounted or remote panel (on right side)
6. LED cargo lights throughout
7. Custom cargo barrier and dividers. Already have 2x2 steel mesh that will be used on barrier, divider, and 2 shelves.
8. Drawers will be either carpet or Line-x (or Monstaliner). Undecided on mesh. Powder coated or bedliner also.
9. Hatches on right and left sides for electronics and extra storage.
10. Pull-Pal will mount to the front of system, behind 2nd row seat.
11. Fire extinguisher location TBA
12. Flashlight charger/mount location TBA
13. Airline track rails on platform for tie-down points

Here are a couple of rough sketchup shots.

I'm just starting to collect the pieces. It will be a while before construction starts. I still have to finish remodeling the house before the little one arrives!

Nice! I've been wanting something similar.

If you wanted to make one side a solo sleeping platform, I'd flip the design left to right as the driver's side is the "60" side of the 60/40 2nd row seat.
