Howdy,

I was hoping that someone here has experience removing the stock oil pressure sending unit off a 13BT (BJ74). I went to install a mechanical aftermarket and tried remove it yesterday and uh... how the heck do you get a wrench on it? I mean I can get a 14mm wrench on it but no room to get even a milli-turn on it. Do you have to remove the A/C comptressor? It seems awfully tight down there with motor mounts, oil filter, the AC comp. Any ideas? The only I had was to try and get a shorter wrench or those ratchet-type spanners. ?Crowsfooot wrench? I could put a small pipe wrench on it and remove but it might mangle the sending unit, and wont make install of the new fittings any easier. I'm stumped!!!

?????
thanks
johnny

it is easy after the first one you remove, i made a special 4 mm wrench to take care of the close quarters...

------ open end
-
- bend
-
----------- box end

works very nice

Take a cheap wrench and cut a portion of the box end out. so you can catch it every 16th of a torn instead of a quarter turn. I stress cheap wrench. don't cut your snap-on

Ahh ha! Thanks a lot you guys for the help. I'll buy a chepy wrench and do some mods on it - probably that will get it.

On another subject I seem to remember clearly Stone saying "you'd be amazed at how much a small rust hole can grow tapping with a hammer" . I got the same here and was wondering if you cut that rust out or temp patch over? Howd it go? Did you use a wire feed?

Johnny:

My Cruiser budget is not very big right now...so I've got the old rust converter, primer and duct tape fix for now. I'm planning to have Rob Millson of LCI in Richmond cut out the rusty portions and weld in new steel when I can afford it. Greg_B. (I notice there are TWO Greg B.'s in this board) has had Rob do it and I was very impressed with the results.

I also need to paint my hood as it is very sunbaked. But it can wait a little. I have decided that my BJ74 will definitely be a wheeling rig and it doesn't need to be too pretty...it already has lots of pinstripes down the sides. I just want the rusty rockers patched before I weld on the sliders. Cheers.

i saw a cool mod for those rusty rockers on Bruce's "Auther Dent" he cut them out and installed (i think) 3X3 square tubing. it ended up looking beafy and clean at the same time. maybe he will add to this.
if it is a wheeling rig then a mod like this might be something you could consider...
