Low range is noticeably slower about 15%.

You should have installed the 4 speed tcase gears while you were balls deep.
Well, I did get some gears from an auto, which are that same lower ratio, but in Toyota's infinite wisdom, both gears on the main shaft have roller bearings instead of the bushings.

Bearings are 100 bucks a piece, so I basically decided it wasn't worth spending over 200 bucks on it. :meh:

If I recall when I swapped fuel tanks on my 60 I got the fuel lines backwards. So a return line is required.

Yeah something to do with cooling the fuel apparently?

Either way. Now is the easiest time to deal with it.

Frame mounted brake line is also a bit dodgy looking. Maybe I'll finally do the rear wheel bearings and brakes. Only bought the bearing kit 7 years ago 🤣🤣

No, fuel wouldn't flow, engine wouldn't start

A lot of injection pumps pull more than they require, so extra has to go somewhere. I'd be curious if you knew how
or wanted to figure out a meter for the return line? Just to put some kind of number to it.
Hmmm, my 406 has a fuel totalizer, way more accurate than fuel gauge. Be cool to have an actual
litre counter on the dash.

Yeah but most Toyotas didn't have a return to the tank. Just back to before the pump.

Then they added one without actually changing anything on the inj pump.

I don't think it's particularly important here. I suspect the decision was based more on ease of purging air than any cooling of fuel, but I guess both reasons are valid.

I'll be grabbing some hard line next time I'm out to do both :meh:

Swmbo has a week off now, so it's gonna be house project time. For most of it 😭

For a cheap price I’ll sell you my 4speed tcase. Or you can just swap in my extra 3b 5 speed for a thrifty trade?

It makes a difference for purging for sure. I had removed the return line on the 2F before, and looped it back into the feed when I had leaking tank issues and used that big reserve.

When I ran out of gas due to the lack of gauge I had problems filling and starting from dry without disconnecting that little loop.

Yeah I just picked up some steel line, I'll get to it in the next week.

No panic. 40 is alive and I'm off for another couple weeks. Not like I go anywhere outside of cedar unless I have to 🤣

Haha too late now. I'm just making this old lump less likely to **** me on the side of the road in winter going to work.

Like pushing the 4wd button and nothing happens. That'd be a treat to troubleshoot on the side of the highway.

Same with my crusty fuel lines. If I only drive in summer they'd last decades. But first time I'm in that messy brown slush, you know they'll s*** their pants.

It lives.

4wd light is on, I'll have to look at the plugs down below...or just pull the bulb

I'd forgotten what a canute it is to change hard fuel lines. That sucked.

Looking at the lines coming off the tank I'll be ordering a new fitting and dropping the tank to do that this summer. s***ty looking and it happens to every 60 at some point...so my day is coming if I don't.

Let me know if the tank is beyond help/repair. Might have an extra if you need

Thanks, I do have a spare tho, so I should be ok

I ordered a new supply/return fitting just now from partsouq.

Seems like everyone who owns a 60 has had the supply rot off, so I'd prefer to avoid my time in the barrel 🤣

Clean off the rust, use some converter, reinforce with JB Weld, and seal with epoxy paint. Done that and the fuel/water separator on the frame rail too and it works like a charm.

The part was weirdly cheap on partsouq

Like 1/3 of megazip....so I'm waiting to see what actually shows up. Could be a gasket and a whiff of fresh desert air 😂

Well, 23 bucks for the part, 17 shipping from Dubai and I didn't even get dinged for duty. Not too shabby.

Tubes are way more horizontal than I anticipated. Does make me wonder if it's the right one, but I guess it is a pretty flat tank.

We'll see. Can always bend to tubes if it comes to that.

Won't be installing today because apparently my other cruiser isn't quite over its electrical gremlins. Added bonus the edic shuts it off after 10 seconds when the fuse is blown, so I had to leap frog my way home.

Start it, floor it, coast rinse repeat 🤣😜

Time to dig out the meter and more caffeine
