What, instead of two wandering clusterfucks of threads? Otherwise it would just go by too fast to enjoy.
Wandering clusterfucks are kinda my thing.

Plus I enjoy how it defeats the censor 🤣

Like back in the old island4x4 days when a particular derogatory term was automatically changed to " monkey of another sexual persuasion"

There used to be a somewhat famous build thread on bc4x4, which was copied over, and the guy says he had to clear out "ruffage" from the back of a truck.

Amuses me how many guys have probably read that over the last 15 years and been confused by "ruffmonkey of another sexual persuasione"

Lol, apparently I put this in the wrong thread.

I should just merge the two and have one big meandering clusterfuck of a thread. 🤣🤣
lol, I didn't even notice.

I've got a couple threads in different forums that wander a lot.... otherwise, it could be years between posts in my threads and people would think I'd disappeared.

If I write it down here, it's easier to remember the things I say when walking around in the shop talking to myself.
That's just what I was telling myself earlier, before I forgot to remind myself.

So I started rebuilding the spare tcase. Figured I could get it all together, it'd be a fairly quick swap when I'm under the truck.

Online auto parts kit. All koyo bearings.

Not staked in case it's a different bolt pattern.

Anyways first time I've seen this. Actual roller bearings inside the gear and not just a sleeve...Hmm. kit certainly didn't come with that.

Roller bearing is actually in two halves too.

This case and gear set came off an auto. I don't know what year. Or if autos are all like that?

At any rate, real question is if the shafts are the same or not. I'll have to do some digging on that I guess.

Those look normal to me. The kit doesn't have replacements? I might have a set of those in my shop. Let me know
and they are in the boxes under the radio on the shelf above the 5 speed.

how do I start a thread on here

I've never had a kit come with a 3rd roller bearing for the main shaft.

It's an 87 and up auto thing apparently.

The kits I got from CruiserOutfitters have them, cause my t-case has them.
This thread has all the necessary info

I'd have to see it I can't remember what you are talking about. I thought you meant the split bearing
set there.

Yeah it's not something I've run into before, and I've done a few cases. But I hate autos

The auto main shaft gear has this

Instead of this.

It's similar to the rollers that go on the idler shaft

Basically unless you order an 87+ auto case RB kit, you won't have it.

I'm coming due for another box of oil filters, so I'll see if I can order one on its own from Toyota parts direct.

Or just say ****it and use the non auto gears.

Weird tho. I wonder why Mr T felt the autos needed a roller bearing there instead of the bushing that's on every other case.

Found it. So basically a hundred bucks. Question is are the slightly lower gears worth the effort.

Interestingly...this link is "national parts direct" not Toyota...

Not sure if it's legit or not.

This one is tpd without the sneaky redirect šŸ˜’

Partsouq is a bit cheaper of course, but Dubai and all

I have most of July off, so that's probably when I'll do the actual work on the 60.

Lower gears worth it… can’t say for sure for a 3B. I think they can use all the help they can get. Is it for low or high range?

For DD, probably not a difference you’d notice.

Theoretically my low range is lower than other 40 because it has a ā€œ3 speed transfer caseā€ but by quick speed vs RPM calculations it’s still 2:1. Never had a 4 speed case, so I don’t know any better… and I’m certainly not going to swap cases just to check.

Not a 3b šŸ˜‰

Difference is 1.9 vs 2.3 noticeable, but not huge. We'll see. I need to think if there's some other parts I need to make a partsouq or AU's order worth it. Usually something I need.

I’m sure you’ll find something to need ;)

Something I've wanted to try since I bought the truck.

In my not particularly humble opinion, there's too much air aimed at the side windows and not enough at the drivers feet.

Hopefully this means warm feet even in defrost mode, which is where I usually leave it set. :meh:

Be better if I found some black plastic already curved, but the s***ty old tote lid will have to do for this experiment.

Seems to only barely reduce the flow to side window, and blows pretty hard at the feet. I'm ok with that. 😊

So this was a surprise.

I did this vent thing to help warm up my legs in winter. Worked pretty well, then I forgot about it.

So today, I'm driving the 60 in shorts for the first time in ages, and it's hot out so the controls are set to vent and I discover I have a nice breeze blowing on my legs.

Maybe not quite as good as a 40 series kick vent, but pretty freaking nice.

For a 20 minute free job , definitely recommend it.
