I need new tires and am considering 33x12.5x15 on stock suspension with upgraded rims. I like the wider look of the tire but am wondering what problems will I run into. Or is it better to stick with 33x10.5x15 on stock rims? I plan on doing a lift but not for a few months at least. Any advice would help. Thanks.

12.5" tires on the stock rims isn't ideal. I think it's no bueno. I had a set of 33x12.5' BFG A/T's on my truck with the stock rim from the PO and didn't like the ride. So 12.5" will fit but they will bow in the middle + your truck will have more roll than if you just ran a 10.5" tire.

For a 12.5" tire a 8 or 10" rim is the jam.

edit:

Entry #2461 is a stock FJ62 with 32" tires. Other folks around here will know better than I, but I'd say 33" tires would rub without any lift.

The stock chrome wheels are 15x6 or 15x8? I can't keep them straight...

Yeah my plan is to run 15x8 aftermarket rims with 12.5s or just stay stock and run 10.5s. Would like to do 12.5 unless its a problem.

And for whoever asked I think stock rims are 15x6.5

Agreed. Wider rim for that tire is a better idea. It would probably be hard to find a tire shop that would be willing to mount a 12.50" on the stock wheel in the first place.

Here's a nice setup for sale...

(Shameless plug :D)

Yes you already know I want your wheel tire setup unfortunately shipping would kill. If you ever feel like separating and shipping rims ill take them!!

FJ60 stock rims are 15x6". FJ40 'disk brake' rims from '76-80 are 15x5.5"

Thanks, so I guess my max aspect ratio is 10.5 then. I guess it's 33 10.5 KM2's, can't wait!

I ran like that(same tires stock wheels) for a couple weeks until I got the lift one. Didn't have a single problem with dd duties.

I had 33x10.50s bfg all terrains on sagging stock suspension and it worked. I lifted my 62 within 3 weeks of owning so I didn't wheel it hard that way. I would stay away from the 12.50s

Ok this thing is on display at Kidspace in Pasadena. It has 35x12.5x15s. I really like that width. Come on someone has to be running 33x12.5x15s on stock or even lifted. Just want to know your experience.

Those don't look like stock wheels, they have got to be at least 10 inches wide

33 * 10.5 work with a lifted suspension.. 8 inch wide wheels. with stock I would think you would scrub big time with no lift.

edit...meant to say 12.5 wide..

Probably aren't but like I said I like the 12.5 width. I would only get 12.5 with wider rim (15x8 is what I'm looking at) NOT stock. Otherwise Im going to run 10.5 on my stock rims (already running 31x10.5 will go to 33s)

Guess I'll do 10.5s seeing I cant get info on 12.5 on stock suspension. Once I lift I'll swap for wider rim/tire combo.

I prefer 12.5's on an 8" rim, currently my 33x12.50x15's are 10" rims. The profile of the tire changes with a 10" rim, I don't get enough sidewall, the 8" rim made the tire taller and it seemed to fit into the wheel well better. This is more prevalent when airing down. Also, the tire doesn't protrude as far with an 8" rim

So I got my tires put on today (33x10.5x15) and love them. No rub and I feel no real difference in power. If anything the truck drives much better, softer less jarring and safer than those old cracked tires. So in my opinion well worth it!
