thanks all for the help... I did a couple things and finally got this SOB in. So I clamped it overnight with a piston ring clamp and put it in the freezer. Figure get those seals as small as I could. Then I also cleaned up the edge as recommended above. Finally last night after many many many attempts I got the thing in. I did notice the tiny little O ring that goes between the housing and the one cover was nicked. I flipped it over and it looked good but the tiny voices in my head said "really, over a $3 part you are going to tempt fate". So one is on order and then everything will be buttoned up. Thanks again Shipwreck for the write on this and everyone else who offered great advice. I will be posting my video of this to youtube which I think will be beneficial because all the other videos had none of the issues I had and I think seeing so many road blocks will be a big help. the blantons I had left over from the holidays was a great celebration last night.

This is kind of off topic for this build, but those worm gear Teflon seals that don't come in the rebuild kit, what exactly do they seal?

I rebuilt a basically perfectly good box thinking it would fix an issue I'm having with a power assist ram extending with enough force to cause a drift to the right when driving, so my suspicion is maybe those Teflon seals on the worm gear.

If that's the case then I guess a new valve assembly is on the list for me 😔

Getting ready to do this myself. Is there a part number for the shaft nut SST?? I can't weld or i'd just make my own.

You mean this one?

Not having done this, I can't tell if the nuts are the same on the 80 and 100 series, or not.

@OGBeno would know

There appear to be a plethora...

...of SSTs, I mean.

If you mean the ine at the top for adjusting backlash. I have always just used my fingers to tighten until the bolt does not spin freely and back off a little. Then stake two sides so it doesn't move.

I can't for the life of me find my FSM right now. I'm refering to the one that box rocket made by welding a nut to a socket in the original posting.
PM me your address and I’ll send you the one I made.
