The turn down tip creates a huge amount of drone. As the exhaust note is reverberating off the ground and up through the floor. One thing to take into consideration when purchasing exhausts.

Has anyone considered turning the turn down tip into a straight tip and running it through a hole in the rear bumper. i.e., drill a big hole in the rear bumper at that spot, and then just run the exhaust straight out. This way you'd maintain the clearance, and potentially reduce the drone?

Not sure if this would have any material adverse effects on the bumper (or the attached spare tire, etc.)... thoughts?

This would suck when it came to loading and loading gear! Lean up against that sucker after a road trip!

Has anyone heard both the EMS and the DT cat back exhausts side by side? Which one is quieter? I don't want to have any drone whatsover if possible when driving or towing. I also like to hunt and don't want a big huge rumble of noise coming down the trail spooking all the animals at 5am.

Can you add a resonator to both these catback systems? I'd like to purchase one of these I'm just not looking for the loud American V8 sound. I'm more looking for just a nice throaty sound.

Thanks in advance.
From what we've heard here and comments from various customers, the EMS setup is the quieter of the two. I'm hoping others can chime in to give you more opinions on this as well.

Baktash - are these mufflers no longer Magnaflows? It's not stamped on the muffler.
As with all of our exhaust system products we generally start our production with a Magnaflow or other off the shelf muffler and as we ramp up production we have our own "overstuffed" mufflers built which are quieter and of better quality than off the shelf options.

For folks looking for minimal drone and quietest operation while still seeing a nice power gain I would highly recommend doing ONLY a cat-back exhaust system and leaving your factory midpipes and factory headers in place. From our experience this has been the best compromise of keeping things sounding great, not too loud, and still getting a nice bump in power.

We have installed many of these systems on trucks with various other parts on them so far, if you have any questions or need tips/input on what setup will get you closest to your desired goals with the sound, performance, and final outcome, feel free to ask here, email us, or call us (866) 258-5367.

Is no one at the shop? I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone to return email, PM's, voicemail messages, and responses on Facebook.

same here...

Hi guys,
We're slammed right now and there's nobody in the office to answer the last week or so. Everybody's been all hands on deck in the shop trying to keep up with the high order volume. I'll be returning phone calls and emails this afternoon all the way through the majority of the day tomorrow. Hang in there, we're getting back to everyone as quick as we can. :steer:

If anyone is looking to let go of their stock exhaust after upgrading, please let me know. In need of at least the stock muffler and the DS flex pipe.

Just ordered my EMS cat-back on sale, my stock seems in pretty good shape for 197k on it and not being on salted northern roads (although might have been dipped with boat trailer in saltwater a few times but it's pretty far forward).. PM me and might be a possibility

Someone else was asking about MPG increase, I'm curious as well and will try to get back once installed, I track my MPG stock and do both city and 225 mile trips. Also have ODBC MX and will try to track any difference on that as well

I'm also curious how I'm going to feel after 225 miles with the cat-back installed... I'm on FL flat land but do go off into the everglades, have had my 100 since 20k miles ODO '02 and it's an '01 so expecting after driving 180k stock I will have my own "perception" to share.

Thanks for 33 pages of reading before ordering lol!

I'm curious... The drone was still there though in the same rpm range as before correct? Just lower in sound volume? I'm also looking for a solution to this drone. My wife hates it. I don't terribly mind it, but driving the distance that we drive to wheel, she won't be too happy when we get to wherever the destination is. I put dynamat on the floor behind the second row. It did quiet down the sound a bit, but that's all it was... a bit. My next thought was what if the exhaust exit was at the rear of the truck without the reflection from the pavement... then i read your post. I'm curious to see what you find.

The drone is there in a stock system. It's a matter of volume. I can now confirm that both the DT and EMS drone is significantly reduced using a stock exit location. This wasn't rocket science and we suspected both the previous and recent results would fall in line.

Apples to apples the DT is the louder system (Not drone volume but exit volume). The loudness is perceived, the actual decibels are almost the same.

For me I could live with either system if the exit is in the stock location.

I'm getting ready to write up my complete impressions of both systems shortly. I will link in this thread.

Yep, have a bad exhaust, and LC's been down over 3 weeks.

Good luck with that, I've been trying to get a refund or replacement of my defective mid-pipes for a couple months now....

The hangar that's on the actual muffler section of my EMS is not long enough. It continues to fall out of the bushing which then causes the exhaust piping to rub on my driveline. A little bit annoyed with it.

Defective? Any more detail? Ordered a set a couple weeks ago.

I've thrown 420 and 430 codes from day one, I've checked fitment several times, and even replace the O2's, still get a CEL with the same codes. So I had my stock pipes put back on, codes are gone. And now EMS won't respond to me with a return/refund, or new set...this has been going on for months.

Does anyone who bought the cat-back system have a working quieter replacement brand/part# for the Magnaflow? My LX (JDMGoodness' former rig) is just a tad too drony at that 16-2000rpm range. I love the sound overall, but I have a couple big hills to drive up to and from work each day.I'd like to just dial it back a notch or two, but keep the fun don't-mess-with-me rumble. Something between Magnaflow and stock...

you could take kingsway

Perhaps keep the kit muffler, and add a resonator

I just saw this. I have been thinking about buying one of those muffler tips from auto zone for $20 and bolting it on for street driving. Then when I go wheeling I take it off.

I've been thinking of the exact same thing.

I was thinking one could even have a tip that would attach to the end of the high-clearance pipe, and then could rotate 90 degrees to maintain high clearance when needed. In "regular" deployed position it would exhaust to the side.

See illustrations below.

1 - Current high clearance
2 - New tip, deployed for side exhaust for normal driving
3 - New tip, rotated 90 degrees, for high clearance.

I figure that the current collars for connecting the pipes could be used to enable the rotation of this type of piece. Just loosing bolts, rotate, tighten up, done.

The amount of restriction in a 90* bend would create a immense amount of back pressure/power loss. I think cutting 3" off the pipe and welding a tip on that points 45* downward would be prime.

My build thread has my solution in it. I'm SC'ed, with Doug Thorley headers, ems mid pipes and cat back then an extra spiral muffler in the end. Ideally that could be a take off tail pipe or exchange with a straight pipe for added performance. I found that without the added muffler highway driving was intolerable.
