Found a $100 '87 mini, decent shape, single owner, 122k, probably VERY LITTLE offroad (older lady owns it), ran 6 years ago when parked, but is claimed to only need a fuel pump, turned over and seemed to have good compression. How much trouble is it to replace the fuel pump, how likely is this thing to run well? This is a steal due to the mechanical condition this truck seems to be in. VERY little rust, issues are cosmetic (paint and seats). Thinking about getting this to save a little gas and for playin in the mud.

Last I knew, there is a panel that you remove for access to the fuel pump on the EFI rigs. Even if there isn't, for $100.00, you can't beat that for a runner :D

tell ya what, you don't want to mess with that fuel pump. it is like a ten day job to get it right, but go ahead and buy it, and sell it to me for $150. Easy fifty bucks right....he he he.....

This is only true in the 4Runners. If it's a pickup, the tank has to come down, or you have to lift off the bed.

Unless you do what a friend did: took an air chisel and hacked a hole in the bed. It was all rusy and junk anyway, but it sure looked redneck.

A new fuel pump will probably run you $200, I think.

But I agree, $100 for a truck... just do it.

It's the 22R, so carb'd. Kliers, if the fuel pump and slight tweaking doesn't do it, I'd take $150 for it.

How would this thing fare as a mud rig? What would you guys do with this rig if you had it?

If I had that option, right now, I'd buy that truck in a millisecond. What a deal. Almost sounds too good to be true!

It does seem too good, that's why I posted. It's an older couple (in their 50s), and the truck has been just sitting behind a barn for atleast 6 years. The fact that it turns over and sounds good makes me hopeful.

If I didn't have stuff left to do on the 80 I would have bought it yesterday. After I talk with Waggoner5 about my control arms, if I have the money left for it and the fuel pump I'll be on this like white on rice.

Fuel pump on a 22r is a half hour job, if that. What would I do?

SAS
4" lift
dual transfer
bob bed
EFI conversion

Buy it, clean it up, take some good pics and resell on craigslist.org it for $1000.

buy it...you won't regret it. i bought a $300 dollar 87 in february..i've driven it all ove the place...great mileage, perkier than my fj60, but quieter than my fj40...love it!!!

No need to drop the tank on the carbed version, the pump sits on the passenger side front of the engine, should be gold in color, and is held in by two 12mm bolts. very easy.

Hell, at least go buy it for the parts. Even if the fuel pump doesn't fix the problem, you could probably make at least several hundred dollars parting it out.

I'm still on the freeze waiting for Waggoner5. I have excess money saved for the control arms I am buying from him, but we haven't found a total price yet due to shipping. After I get the arms and a few other trinkets, the Mini will be mine if enough dough it there.
