Whichever one crushers happens to have for sale. Why? Because no one is more knowledgable and ethical than he is. He is the thought leader, the guru, the GOD.

If you had a choice between the two engines which would you put in your cruiser and why?

I would go the 1HZ 1st and the 1PZ 2nd and the 3B last.

The 1HZ purely because it is faster ,quieter on road and parts are becoming cheaper and easier to find outside of Toyota.

The 1PZ because it is almost a 1HZ.
However I dont know about the long term availabilty of parts unique to a 5 cylinder that only had a short production run 15 years ago

The 3B last only because its 4 cyl and not suitable for long distance road use without a turbo.

But having said all that I would always put having a good diesel 1st over having a worn out diesel of any variety if a rebuild was going to be difficult.

3B, somehow domestic, lightweight, cheap

Valid reasons!

thanks, but normally i don't sell jut engines. i would suggest buying one from Greg and Sheldon. they sell excellent engines and stand behind their product. both of them are very easy to deal with and are extremely honourable.

personally i can not recommend the PZ since i have yet to beat one up. BUT that beind said i have to agree with what was said earlier on this thread as well as the 1hz vs 3B thread, the pz is basicly a 1hz with a cylinder lopped off.
if you run the pz then you wil need the flywheel and tranny that goes with it. if i ever pull the tranny on my pz then i will tell you if the flywheel from a 1hz will bolt up. if that is the case and if you can use the 1hz bell housing then you could run the h55f or the R151 which would open up new options. of course either the engien will need moving back about 4 " or the tranny willl need moving ahead the same...
cheers

its a five cylinder? really? They have to be pretty tough if they last in the mine! expecailly because they replaced the 3B

My opinon bwt 3B - 1PZ = 3B guaranteed.

3B - 1PZ - 1HZ = 1HZ all night long .. !

But in need to ask, why anybody ask about 2H  hey is a good engine also .. !

Yes, why ignore the 2H? Its a great motor and never stops doing the job it was designed for.
The parts are as cheap as ships:D

Toyota dont have "bad" diesels, you just need the right one. needs+expectations+wallet=:D

"3B - 1PZ - 1HZ = 1HZ" Adds up to negative 7:D??

I think the main reason there isn't alot of talk about 2H's is because they were never sold in canada, where as the 3B was and the 1PZ is sold for mine use now

Eric, the 2H was in the 1986-87 HJ60, sold in Canada.

The engine sold and used in the mines now are the 1HZ. The PZ had a shortish life.
