Hi There,

I have been poking around and if someone could give me some confirmation, I would appreciate it. Is the stock steel fuel line between the pump and carburetor 8mm and the union at the carb fuel inlet a 13mm x 1.5 thread nut with an "olive" on the fuel line pipe? Secondly, what would be the best way to attach the olive to the fuel line? I am removing a Rochester 2-jet carb that a PO installed and replacing it with a stock carb from Mark (thanks @65swb45 !) and I am trying to get the fuel line reconnected. The fuel line I currently have installed is closer to 7/16 (11mm) and the union nut and olive I received from SOR for my model year range are 8mm.

I appreciate you all, thanks!

Pat

Yes, 8mm or 5/16 inch. The nut should easily thread all the way onto the carb fitting without the olive or tube in place. (test for proper thread engagement.)

To install the olive, insert the tube through the nut, slip on the olive and insert the tube into the carb fitting. When you tighten the nut, the tapered ends of the olive squeeze into the tube and the inside of the carb fitting, forming the seal.

Tight but not too tight; fuel pressure is only a couple psi. You can always tighten more if it drips.

Thanks a million!

What he said plus, use a marker and mark the line where it comes out from the nut WITHOUT THE OLIVE. Then put it all together the way @73FJ40 described, but with your mark 1/16” from the nut. This will keep the line from bottoming out inside the inlet fitting when the olive compresses

excellent advice, thanks again!

Just bent myself a new line for the Karma Cruiser this morning and realized that I forgot to mention: it’s WAY easier to crush the olives onto the line if you do it in a bench vice with an extra fuel fitting.
