I've been told many area of PA are what I'd call in the rust belt. Is this area producing rust buckets?
One thing I'm 99.99% sure it's not diesel.

Any area other than the SW can produce rust in a Toyota. We will need some underside pics.
Most of PA uses road salt. Doesn't mean all are automatically rusted if you pre-treat your vehicle and keep it super clean, but yes, you always check for rust on PA cars.

We get bad weather a few times each winter. Not exactly in the rust belt but we definitely salt the roads.

Road salts of some sort or another are used in most any city where it snows. Simply washing off salt takes care of that. Rigs from snow area usually just have a light surface rust after 10, 15 or even 20 years.
But when I use the term "rust belt" rig, I'm speaking of vehicles that rust is bad in every vehicle in the area. These areas usually have very high relative humility. The rust gets into panels, threads of bolts and parts. This stuff eats holes in places like frame and rear hatch, freezing bolts and parts in just 3 to 5 years. Once it takes hold it can't be stopped only slowed. I've inspected vehicle that only spent 6 months in places like Chicago early in it's life, then years later rust is everywhere even thou it was in AZ or CO most of it's life.
So generally I just skip over ads from the "rust belt".
This one being a low mile 05 in a color I've come to love, cough my eye. So I did take some extra time today (snow day) to pre inspect it. Unfortunately for me it is to much rust. Others may call it surface rust, and it may fine for them.

You flew from Co to Pa to inspect it or did you just look at photos?
I bought a 100 a few years back in PA around the Penn st. area and it was super clean. I think every situation is different depending on many variables. I would never rule a PA vehicle out. NY on the other hand is a different story.
