Builds Imperial Land Cruiser II Build Thread

Picked up some new LED bulbs to finish converting the interior lighting to LED in hopes for better lighting and less battery draw when camping.

Another thing I finally got around to was improving my comm gear. I moved my Firestik CB antenna from the ARB bull bar to the rear hatch and mounted it on one if SoCalFrank's mounts that I picked up at Surf 'n Turf (cool guy, good product). I also finally got my ham radio license (KK6COM) and...

Made some changes to the setup in the cargo area. Picked up an EdgeStar fridge and a slide that a fellow Mud member had fabbed up.

Well, I ended up going with the 2900. HRO had an unbeatable deal going, so I couldn't pass it up. I only plan to keep the radio in the Cruiser on expedition trips and trail runs, so it will be sufficient for my needs. I installed it back behind the center console like some of the others here...

Next up on my build list is better communications. I am currently running a CB, which obviously has its limitations. I've been reseaching for a while for an upgrade to longer range, more reliable comm gear for trail and, more importantly for us, overlanding trips where there may not be cell...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Did Joshua Tree NP for the first time. Not much wheeling, but Berdoo Canyon was fun to check out.

Discharged Battery - Trust the Parts Guy or Mud?

Bonus points to those who said bad battery. Swapped in the new one, and it seems to be holding at 12.4 and no sign of any parasitic drain after several hours. Oh, and the battery was an '08, so it was time for a new one. Thanks again for the input and ideas.

Discharged Battery - Trust the Parts Guy or Mud?

Thanks for all the input and ideas from everyone. I will put these tests to work when I get home this evening. I'll definitely be replacing the battery, since I am not sure of its age, but I'm guessing its past its prime. I'll take a look at the date stamp on it when I get home. I just...

Discharged Battery - Trust the Parts Guy or Mud?

So, was camping in Pismo this weekend for Surf 'n Turf. Got packed up Sunday morning and truck wouldn't start. Symptoms of a drained battery. Jumped it from another 80, and it started up first time. Scangauge showed voltage around 15 once it started as it tried to recharge the battery, and then...

It's hard to say yet. I was routinely around 11.8 to 12.0 per the scangauge for daily driving (with the RTT up top). When I went up to Surf 'n Turf this weekend, I was around 13.9 for the trip with the RTT and fully loaded down. I think I need to run them longer over my regular routine...

These things are so much quieter than my old out of balance MTR's. Put some mileage on them this weekend going up to Surf 'n Turf in Pismo. Did great on the road, and seemed to do well in the sand. So far, I'm a fan. Eric, an Ouray trip next year sounds fun. We've been talking about a trip...

front and rear diff drain bolts

First, make sure you break loose the fill bolts before attempting the drain bolts. You'll be in big trouble if you drain them first and then can't get into the fill plugs. Mine wouldn't come loose with hand tools either without wanting to round the bolts. Hitting with an impact wrench seemed...

Made the switch from MTR's to some All-Terrains. Nitto Terra Grapplers. The difference in noise reduction is amazing. It's like a whole new vehicle.

Brake job. New rotors, pads, rebuilt calipers all the way around, followed by a brake fluid flush. Stops much better now.
