They should fit snugly. I use a block of wood to install mine and bang them in. I use a spare pin to bang them back out.
You should install the top pins upside down so you don’t ruin your paint when you remove them later.
My door limiters are long gone so having a tight fitting bushing...

I only have them for the plate style carrier. The tube style takes two different size bushings and there wasn't enough demand to make them. The kit @Racer65 sells is nice.
Check the adjustment on the pushrod from the booster into the master. There's a nut on the end of it. Sounds like it's too far out and putting pressure on the master.
For sliding rubber insulation over things, Armorall works well. In my business we jacket very long cable assemblies with Neoprene tubing using compressed air. Once the tubing is inflated, you can slide the wire bundle thru it easily. The tubing you used was probably a little thin for this method.
