Installed a new brass/copper radiator & also replaced my beat up & leaking (hole in tank) Saginaw power steering pump. Still a bit of tidying up to do but it’s been cold outside!

FJ60 has been sitting about 3 months while I've been replacing the H55F and t-case with new units. Went with a 2.3 t-case. Plugged up an oil leak that's at the upper left on the engine block, and behind the bellhousing. Also had to replace hubs seals on the 80 series FF axle. Finally finished up the assembly today with the interior. I pulled out the "molded" vinyl flooring that never fit well and installed front carpet from a FJ62. Only needed to cut it for the transmission shifter. The FJ62 has a dead pedal which lacks carpet but that's covered with a rubber floor mat. Carpet came of a parts rig and was not in the best of shape but this is my field vehicle and it will soon be dirty anyway. I'm glad to be able to drive my 60 again and the new transmission and t-case are nice. H55F filled with Redline GL4.

And very nice.👍

How much time/ miles were on the old Sag pump? Just curious.
I’ve had the Saginaw pump for maybe 3 years. The failure point was TOTALLY my fault…not of the pump.

EDIT: just checked my records…I’ve actually had the Saginaw Pump right @ 6 years.

Short version; the belt adjustment bolt on the smog pump eliminator was too long and was actually touching the power steering tank. It was not touching when I first installed it…but as time went by & I tightened the smog pump belt up, it got to touching & I did not notice it. This interference of the bolt to the tank caused a hole.

Several applications of JB Weld just delayed the inevitable & I went ahead with a new pump.

First task was a pretty easy one to dive back into the h55f swap that I’ll finally be completing while the 60 sleeps this winter (avoiding salty northeast roads).

I tapped the unused bolt hole in the front of a spare 38mm t-case and added a plug (1/4-18 NPT tap and brass plug, along with orange Loctite for peace of mind):

Last summer I scored a new set of 5 General X3 tires in 33x10.5r15 off of FB marketplace, and in the fall I put 4 of them on the 60 mounted on some old 15x8 Eagle 058 wheels that I refinished. I finally located a 5th wheel and refinished it to match the other 4, got the 5th tire mounted, and today I replaced the stock spare wheel/tire with the new one:

Hangs a bit lower but I’m not worried about it

A couple minor observations:

The General X3 actually measures 33” and still fits with probably another 2” to spare (1” to shackle hardware on either side), meaning I could get up to a 35” tire under there if I also reworked the receiver mounting hardware that sticks into the space a bit. I have no intention of going that big though.

Second, I thought I had a full factory toolkit in the 60, but found it was a few pieces short when I went to lower the original spare so I had to improvise. I wound up throwing an 8mm hex key in an 8mm socket with a few extensions, which I then used to lower the spare without (much) incident; keeping it lined up was the only thing I really had to pay attention to. I sprayed some liquid wrench in a few hours before lowering the spare, but it was removed when I had the fuel tank recalll done 2-3 years ago so I don’t think it was really needed.

I’ll try to find the missing pieces to complete my factory tool kit so I don’t have to get creative if/when I need to access the spare away from home.

Nothing exciting, but it was nice to check a few things off.

Mounted my new Tuffy box after some trial and error with the existing tall brackets, installed new passenger side seat belt, and a new passenger sun visor(will do driver tomorrow but ran out of light).
Spent the last hour or so searching around the forum and the internet to find a new OEM power steering pump(44320-60071?) after I noticed that was leaking.

Took my decorations down. Always keep them on the 60 through NYE. Will post some pics of my poor mans RTT tent setup in another post. Deer season is done....time to get back on the hogs.

What Sun Visors did you go with. Looks cool!

^^^ @robcgray

Oh, yes I am using a shroud…and also a belt on my power steering pump. Just took that picture prior to putting them on.

Looks like you're not using the fan shroud. Any reason why? It would be interesting to see if you have issues, but that probably won't be for 6+ months to know.
The fan shroud plays an enormous part in directing air through the engine bay. You’ll overheat the engine without it.

Thanks!

Rosen visors from Oregon. IIRC they're the same ones that get used for ICON's builds.

Land Cruiser sun visors(P/N: 7S10075-0). Came out to about 285USD for the pair.

Did my first valve adjustment, adjusted them cold because I knew I would move slow. I pre market all the exhaust and intake with paint red exhaust, yellow intake. Then after I checked and adjusted each one market with white paint. ( I know over kill, but that’s me). Of the 7 that needed adjustment 6 were to tight. After I finished started truck and immediately noticed a difference, not only the way it sounded, much quieter but idled and seems to accelerate smoother.

If you go through and crack all the nuts loose before you start adjusting you’ll know if you missed any when you check to make sure everything is tight. Good work though! Easy to get yourself confused doing valve adjustments for the first time.
