What is this part?

It was just hanging under my 1982 fj60. It has a copper coil and what looks like a tunable dial on it. It was under the passenger side dash.

Now that we are pulling the body off I finally saw what it was connected to.

Here are the photos of both ends.

Any thoughts?

connected to the starter in the first pic? if so its an ancient kill switch? not a factory part of course either.

Not an original Toyota part. Something the previous owner spliced in. Connected to the starter is super suspicious. Get rid of it.

Yeah one end was connected to the starter. The copper coil seems strange.

At this point I'm just curious.

It looks like A/C thermostat control switch. Why it's on the starter is anybody's guess.

In our other house that type controls the fireplace fan (220v, start when hot and off when colder)
I have many stupid ideas but to use this with a starter?, start engine when cooling down?
