80 Series 5 years.
80 Series 10 years-Regretted selling the first 80 series. Regret selling this one.
100 Series/LX 470 13 years-Still have it
200 Series 6 years and no plans to sell.

All of my LC's I bought used. Always from a 3 year lease being turned in. Always from California or Arizona.

My last vehicle was an anomaly. It was a 2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail Premium, that I kept for a bit less than five years. And that was only because the LC was being discontinued, and I could still get one at $8k under MSRP. So, off to Eric the T4R went.

I kept prior vehicles that were new when I bought them much longer:
  • 1975 VW Scirocco - 13 years
  • 1988 Ford Ranger - 11 years
  • 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon - 13 years
  • 2008 Subaru Outback 2.5XT - 9 years
  • 1958 MG A - 22 years and counting
  • 2006 Vespa - 16 years and counting
  • 2007 Suzuki - 15 years and counting
I'm not including used vehicles, as some were fairly old when I bought them, with high mileage. And, it was the '60s and '70s, so they rotted quickly. Most notable was my first car, which was already 40 years old when I bought it at age 14.

I don’t keep cars longer than 2 years but I missed my 200 so much I’m back in an LX and barring financial circumstances it’s here for the long haul.

FJ40 since 1980.
FJ60 since 1999.
FJ62 since 2018.

Maybe I will get a 200.

Did you buy it new? How many miles were on it? I respect that a lot.
It was an ‘86. I purchased it used in ‘88 for $13K. (Try buying a 2 year old land cruiser for $13K now). It looked brand new. Had 42K miles on the odometer when I purchased it.
Sold it with 293K miles on the odo after rebuilding the head. Since it had oversized tires on it that slowed down the odometer 10%, it really had 318,000 miles on it. Still ran great. Original block.

I’ve owned 3 Land Cruisers since the early ‘90s, so I guess that’s about 10 years per vehicle average. My current 200 may change that, since it’s a keeper. With my other vehicles, I’ve been playing around with various EVs just for fun, so I’ve been flipping those often.

I’m a mixed bag when it comes to ownership longevity… some I’ve parted with after a few years, some have been totaled, a couple have stuck around a while. My longest relationships were:

‘67 Mustang coupe. Kept 24 years, daily driven for 10 of those. Sold it after having kids and never regretted it… doggone death wish.

‘05 Subaru Baja kept 13 years, first new car, jack of all trades master of none but it was great for my camping lifestyle. Also sold it after having kids as 2 car seats and a grocery store trip just didn’t work in it.

We got our ‘21 LC this March and have zero plans on ever parting with it, our boys will have to figure out which one gets it once we’re gone. It’s not a daily driver so I feel like we should get deep into the odometer and years with it.

1989 Chrysler Le Baron from 1995 to 1995. 1 Month from 16th birthday to 'power' sliding it into a utility pole.
1984 Chevrolet Impala From 1995 to 1997. Fantastic back seat.
1977 Jeep CJ-7 from 1997 to 1999. Ran fine but had a gas tank leak and some transfer case noise I couldn't figure out.
1989 GMC S-15 from 1997 to 1999. Great little truck. Wish I still had it. Barely went 78mph
1993 Chevy Blazer 4x4 from 1999 to 2000. Gave that one to my dad if I remember correctly.
2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder from 1999 to 2000. Purchased new. Worst car ever.
1998 Ford Explorer Sport 4x4 from 2002 to 2008. Not a bad little truck.
1996 Acura Integra from 2006 to 2008. Wish I still had it despite it not being a good one.
2003 Mercedes SL55 AMG from 2008 to 2009. Fun car, too heavy.
2010 Nissan Xterra Off-Road from 2009 to 20113. Surprisingly capable. Terrible visibility.
2008 Cadillac Escalade from 2012 to 2016. Loved that truck.
2016 BMW M4 from 2015 to 2018. Amazing track car and fun sleeper on the road.
2006 Land Rover Range Rover HSE from 2016 to 2019. As unreliable as it was capable.
2013 Toyota Land Cruiser from 2019 to the grave.
Next up... 60 series.. EV conversion (maybe).

I'm probably missing one or two, but those are the majors.

1989 FJ62 my father bought it new had it for 27 years
1984 FJ60 I bought in high school had it for 15 years
2014 4Runner trail edition 1 year
2017 Tundra 2wd SR5 3 years
2016 LC200 3 years to infinity.

It varies for me. Anywhere from a few weeks to a decade. Im in my mid-30s, have owned more than 50 vehicles, with roughly a quarter being Toyota/Lexus. My Supras stay the longest, with an average of 10 years. Bought my '13 LC a bit over a year ago with 15k miles, no plans on selling it anytime soon.

Last car was a 15' Yukon SLT that I planned on keeping for a very long time, but it didn't last 3 years before I ditched it for a 16' LC because the AC went out, constant 4wd issues, a transmission that didn't feel right and all around poor build and feel. I think the car was better looking than the land cruiser but was looking for a solid car that I wouldn't have to mess with, the land cruiser is a long term keeper.

Depends on which car we're talking about. In 2012 I bought an 84 Mercedes 300d that I intend to own for the rest of my life. In 2018 I bought an '09 ranger that I used to commute while I rebuilt the engine in the Mercedes. I sold the ranger in 2020 right afyer I bought a 2013 land cruiser. I'm not sure how long I'll keep the cruiser. I'll be polishing it up over the next few weekends, and if I can get a really optimistic price for it I'll let it go.
