I lost a couple doing that until I made a habit of putting the cap in the cradle for the filler nozzle. Even if I forget, it’s in the way of putting the nozzle back. Been working for last couple years.
Looks like a leather pump cup. Neatsfoot oil heavy dose. Put it back in; it will work for a while, maybe not perfect.
On a good you can wet form a cup with a round tube the right size - ID is of bore in carb hole and a forming wood dowel...
In the winter I need to leave the choke on (at least a little) for a long while due to the header. The fluid heat riser does help but the engine needs to have some heat in the coolant to work.
Prices around here seem really high - its like I got one and you need to pay top $ to get it away from me, even tho it a rust bucket with a knocking engine, has a bad clutch and a grinding gear box on bad tires with no brakes.
Removed belts before lunch. This is what I found:
Fan is firmly attached to the pulley. Pulley, and I assume the pump shaft, are kinda wobbly, and some antifreeze leaked out the mount while I was wiggling the fan.
Time to order a new pump?
Its got a layer of rust and crud build up. Maybe a bunch of old stop leaks too. Spray some rust breaker in, let soak for a while. Use like an old nut pick to dig carefully. Spray again, let soak dig.
Took it grocery getting! Felt good, first real drive in 6 months. Both axles rebuilt, new brakes plumbed and new suspension. Rode nice! Also found a few more items to add to the fix it list.

Mine mostly run at that spot on the gauge. Stereo can help identify location of noise (your ears) mono from the computer speakers not so helpful.
You have the shaft into the water pump - if its real loose good chance it will be now or soon...
