Used adhesive Velcro so we can change the orientation as needed.

Dom,

You can also wrap the exhaust with heat tape, works great and helps keep the engine bay cooler. This engine swap is going to be a blast to drive, I bet it will be your daily!

Thanks 76... I ordered what Toyota has left and I’ll see how they work. I may order that set to keep in stock anyway. A few items done today...

Replaced the old speedo cable with a new one. Tested the brake circuit for wiring the harness when it arrives...

Reconnected the main ground from the bellhousing/starter to the frame using the original star washers...

Tucked away the temp sensor and oil pressure wires as there will be new ones in the new harness. I’ll tape them up later once I know everything is working. A little mystery oil in the cylinders and cranked her over to spin the oil pump. Great to hear it turn over even if I know it’s not going to start.

Connected the alternator to switched power for testing purposes. Will finalize that with more permanent wiring once the harness is installed.

Pulled the ignition switch in preparation for wiring..,

I was originally going to use an early switch but am not super pumped about the large key. So I got a few of the not quite so early switches with the smaller key. The early switch has the right terminals and a cool faceplate but I like the small key.

Can easily convert the wiring to spade connectors instead of eyelets.

Also considering just adding the faceplate to the later switch as it fits...

Would be really cool if Racer or someone could repro these faceplates as that ignition switch is NLA.

Wiring harness scheduled for delivery Thursday!

My wife left the key in the ACC position one night, dead battery in the morning. She didn't look at the volt meter to see there was still voltage reading. I like the face plate simply for that reason.

What's the part number on the early switch? Are they still available. I don't know what I have in my '63, but no key either way so I have to do something different. Thanks.

Early switch with larger key and faceplate (on right) with screw terminals is apparently from an FJ55 per Poser?

69057-95211 no longer available.

Not quite so early (1971?) on left with small key and spade connectors.

84450-60040. Still available.

I was hoping maybe Racer could repro the faceplate but not sure there would be enough interest.

I will do a separate thread on all the wiring but for now we made progress last night. @1973Guppie came by and we were able to get the harness in place...

Today needed to make lots of connections...

This morning I finalized some connections and fixed a problem wiring the ignition switch. In my haste to get this done I did not test the existing ignition switch wiring and just followed how they were hooked up with the old switch.

Brett built the harness with rough measurements I provided from 2500 miles away. The lengths are nearly spot on. We will have to build one extension for an O2 sensor wire that’s it!

Tested the coil, CEL, fuel pump, ignition switch and injectors. All good. Just picked up the tranny hump and some fuel. My buddy has had no time to fix the tranny hump so it’s a bit of a Frankenstein still for now. I’ll put that on, add some fuel and try to start it.

The countdown is on…

Tranny cover on, passenger seat in. Fuel in.

Noah and his youngest came by and we got to work. Pressurized the fuel system and had a leak at the dampener. Had the crush washers reversed so one was not seated correctly. @1973Guppie helped solve that issue. Will probably need to replace them as they looked old? Not sure why that was. Tightened down and resolved the fuel leak.

Cranked over a few times and she ran but a little rough. Maybe all the fuel maybe timing but she’s alive!!!!!! Smoked out all the new gaskets and I was pretty jumpy with any noise.

Me: “ Turn it off I heard metal on metal!”

Noah: “ Uhhhh.... I didn’t hear anything.”

Me: “OK start it back up...”

15 seconds later...

Me: “Whats that noise!? It doesn’t sound good!!”

Noah: “Uhhhh... it’s the plastic bag covering the old 3 speed on the pallet that the exhaust is hitting”.

Anyway, thanks to Noah I lost a little of my nervousness. Good oil pressure and good temps so we moved on to setting the timing per the FSM and then cleared a little idle issue.

Now she puuurs at idle. But doesn’t run very good otherwise. A few engine codes to work through and I need to hook up the fuel pressure regulator to vacuum (that might help! Duh!).

But all will have to wait as it’s my anniversary weekend and the bride and I are heading out for a few days.

I will take my FSM to read through engine codes and I’ll enjoy the weekend with a subtle smile knowing I can at least idle around town at a snails pace if I had to....

Happy Anniversary! (uh, set the FSM on the nightstand, if you get my drift....:censor:)

Great progress Dom!

I know that nervous tension while starting a new engine. I went through it with the 2H and the 12HT. I actually had a problem with the 2H. Unknown to me, during shipping the fuel control cam on the back of the injection pump had been hit and over rotated to wide open throttle. Upon startup it went immediately to wide open throttle. Needless to say, since I was standing next to the engine with the front clip off, I needed a clean pair of underwear! Fortunately I was able to shut the engine down in about 15 seconds and no damage was done.

Dom I'm happy for you. Congrats...
