Tranny cover on, passenger seat in. Fuel in.
Noah and his youngest came by and we got to work. Pressurized the fuel system and had a leak at the dampener. Had the crush washers reversed so one was not seated correctly.
@1973Guppie helped solve that issue. Will probably need to replace them as they looked old? Not sure why that was. Tightened down and resolved the fuel leak.
Cranked over a few times and she ran but a little rough. Maybe all the fuel maybe timing but she’s alive!!!!!! Smoked out all the new gaskets and I was pretty jumpy with any noise.
Me: “ Turn it off I heard metal on metal!”
Noah: “ Uhhhh.... I didn’t hear anything.”
Me: “OK start it back up...”
15 seconds later...
Me: “Whats that noise!? It doesn’t sound good!!”
Noah: “Uhhhh... it’s the plastic bag covering the old 3 speed on the pallet that the exhaust is hitting”.
Anyway, thanks to Noah I lost a little of my nervousness. Good oil pressure and good temps so we moved on to setting the timing per the FSM and then cleared a little idle issue.
Now she puuurs at idle. But doesn’t run very good otherwise. A few engine codes to work through and I need to hook up the fuel pressure regulator to vacuum (that might help! Duh!).
But all will have to wait as it’s my anniversary weekend and the bride and I are heading out for a few days.
I will take my FSM to read through engine codes and I’ll enjoy the weekend with a subtle smile knowing I can at least idle around town at a snails pace if I had to....
