I'm actually curious about his also. I feel comfortable with just about anything four wheeling, but I'm really not that experienced in off road navigation. I've always just kind of winged it when exploring. How are you guys planning to keep to this actual route ?

I use couple of software packages that use GPS and IOS8 and above you do not need a cell signal so it will be a game of following the dot. The route is not perfect and will adjust as we go. We will have enough peeps in our group that I'm pretty sure we can figure it out. This trail takes 2.5 days but I'm hoping to take it slow enjoy the company and have some fun.

So, some questions about that pic ^

1st, is that a boat ?

2nd, am I going to need a boat to get across the river ?

Yes that is a boat :censor: however we can cross somewhere else if the water levels are high. Jeff and I went last fall and had no issue. I would recommend floaties.

So it sounds like we'll be running the more technical route....Is there a Google Maps doc of the map we're running? Kind of curious to scope it out by Google earth view.

Here is the map...HWM15Public you can export it to a kml or gpx or google earth and follow the route.

Here are some pics from 4 years ago (from a overlandguild member) spring time and high water levels and some shots of the terrain and obstacles we will go through

High Water Mark: Gone Wild - Scott

Here are the recommendations from overlandguild for vehicle modifications. These obviously will change....depending water levels and mud...Ih8mud...

Route Difficulty: Hard with difficulty based on current water levels. A good driver can do it with a moderately modified vehicle and good tires. (We always recommend extending breathers and a set of sliders)
Tightness: Its Arkansas. Trails will be tight and pinstripes will be common. That said, this route will be focused on some of the best trail and water we have in the Natural state. Be prepared.
Vehicle Requirements: Frame mounted recovery points. 31" mud terrains, traction aids, extended breathers and maybe a snorkel.

TRAILER PARK BOYS please ping me.

I'm going to work on trailer parking this week for the trip. If you plan on trailering down please send me a quick TEXT so I can get a count. This thread doesn't need to get any longer for this.

Please include your name and expected date of travel.

Thx,
Dave

I use backcountry navigator pro on Android. Tons of base map and aerial options, you can download map tiles for offline use which saves battery, and import gpx or kml files. Easy user interface too.

Is that the one by CritterMap Software?

I use motion x GPS navigator. Since the above app is only for androids. I tried several apps and motion x seems to have everything that I need.

I posted up on the Razorback Forum about joining them on Sunday June 5th. Will give updates.

I did look and Hot Springs park is open only Thursday through Monday, so we could not front load this side trip.

Sammy, you are going to be cleaning your truck for a month! Wow at 21:00

that's not mud... officially add me to the list if there is room. i ordered a snorkel even if its a trail only intake and I have to run 2 set ups.

edit. i had what you would call "a failure to communicate" with my better half. I have to withdraw.

Here's the picture I was looking for last night. Let's just say, IH8MUD!!!

So unless something changes I'm doing no snorkel mainly because I don't have one and won't by June. Short deep sections are briefly passable without snorkel from what I've seen on video and a couple times in person and these photos looked passable for our rigs no snorkel. I've got 35's. Extended axle breather tubes. Just no snorkel. I've got great door seals too if I have to shut her down a pull on through. I can use my own winch unless the battery floods. Am I crazy? About no snorkel ?

I do NOT have a tank to wash my wheels and tires when I get on through so I'll have to borrow that from Madman. LOL

Your truck sits about the same height as mine I would guess. That means the intake is somewhere about 4+ ft off the ground, you would have to be in some deep $hit for it to suck water.

Now, one thing I haven't seen anybody mention, are you guys sealing up your distributors ? The wrong splash of water upward through the vent hole is going to shut you down pretty quick.
