My father recently gave me his old fj with the intent on having me restore it.
Well, I had someone take a look at the engine and give me an estimate of $3500. :meh:
Between the cost of the rebuild and all the other maintenance a truck that has been sitting outside for 10 years is going to need, I'm just not sure if it is worth it. :/
So I figured I would at least try and sell her before scrapping.

It has almost no rust. (somehow)
Front windscreen is smashed to all hail.

I've had Ol' Blue for some years in Nevada, brought out to Texas in 2007. Clear Nevada Title (no liens).
New tires were put on in 2007, tank dropped and flushed, birf's repacked. Well, life happens and five years later it still has Nevada tags on it. I'd toss in fuel stabilizer every year, but just didn't do any driving other than around the block. I've put less than 200 miles on it since then (which also answers why I'm selling, just haven't used the cruiser!)
Dropped in a new Autozone group 27 battery last week, fired up and off we went.... for 1/4 mile. Backfire! No power, and needs a little TLC. It really should have the tank drained...

I find it time to sell my second 60 series.
This is a 1985 that was converted to a GM 350 V8 TBI (fuel injection) at 160,000 miles in 2001. It now has 208,000 miles (48,000 miles on the engine) and runs great. It has a Ranger Overdrive on the original 4 speed manual transmission, aluminum radiator, dual electronic fans, single 3" exhaust with a Magnaflow muffler, and 31x10.5 Big O A/T tires that are about 15,000 miles old. Front and rear bumpers are aftermarket tube style, with auxiliary off road lights. Both the driver and passenger A pillars have search lights. The interior and exterior are in great condition. A Bluetooth CD player, water temp gauge and tachometer have all been added to the dash.

The Good: Very clean and well kept. Reliable diesel engine. Always starts well. Great winter vehicle. Newer brakes. Mechanically sound. Good tires. Hella driving lights. Recent body restoration (aprox 5 years ago).
The Bad: Stone chips and paint blistering no holes. Small rip in driver's seat. Sound frame but has some rust.
Rear axle pinion seal and front windshield will be replaced for full asking price.

After 2 years with this vehicle, I'm out. I purchased the truck for off-road family fun. I've never been able to keep it running and now the motor has developed a knock. This could be a good shell for a project or maybe a parts car. It currently has a bunch of problems including:
Motor heats up and starts knocking after about a mile of driving.
The transmission overheats under load (long climbs up mountain roads).
Tires are nearly bald.
The a/c has never had a belt, so don't know if it works.
The 4 wheel vacuum switch is bad (works one way).
The front trunnion seals are leaking.
Needs tie rods replaced.

We started putting a low miles used 14BT in it, customer ran out of money, and it has sat for a while.

All of the sheet metal, Glass, and Entire Interior have been removed. Only what makes the truck run and move was left intact. The driveline is complete with 188K on the 3FE and Auto trans. Steering column, ECU, and Harness still intact in cab. OEM Red Shell is in good condition, only a rear floor rust hole and starting of surface rust in a couple places- no dents or dings. I am moving to MN next week and I'm having it shipped there. So any sale will be from my new home in MN. I'll be living 25 minutes outside of Minneapolis.
I just got it out of the shop today. The carb was rebuilt. Had gaskets and hoses replaced. Vaccum line and EGR valve assy replaced. All Tuned up. Runs very smooth. 4WD works perfectly. Rust coated underneath. No Rust anywhere that I can see. At the Land Cruiser shop I was told it's the best 60 they've ever had in there.
The Ugly:
The drivers seat is torn from 27 yrs of climbing in and out. If I keep it I'm replacing it.
The carpet in the very back should be replaced. Easy job...

This is a CALIFORNIA REGISTERED 1986 HJ-61 RIGHT HAND DRIVE TURBO.
This stock Cruiser was recently imported from New Zealand and the owner was insanley meticulous with records with the car. It has clean original interior, light rust, factory decals and a remote controlled PTO winch. The odometer reads 300,000 kilometers which equates to only 186,411 miles. CALIFORNIA REGISTERED, TITLE IN HAND. No black smoke, drives clean, 25-28 miles per gallon. High roof!

Good glass, headliner, and all lights good shape. CD Radio stereo.
Body's good. It does have some dings and scratches, but overall it is solid. Has smaller rust spots that seem fairly common.
