i have a 2l engine that i have put a pair of turbos on.
im from iceland and this car is on 38 inch tires and in snow with a tire pressure of 2 psi i have seen my egts go up to the 2000 farenheit marker :whoops: and a litlle over 20 psi boost and still no cracked head only one headgasket. just posting this to say that these engines can take a beating.the engine has about 290,000 kms on it and maybe 15,000 with twinturbo

Holy crap that's a lot of heat! I back my foot off the pedal when I get to 1000 degrees F, but then I have a head-crack-o-matic 2LT-E.

Is yours a simple 2L-T, a 2LII-T, or a 2LT-E?
Pictures of the twin turbo setup? Very curious how that looks (not that I'm going to do it to mine).

Dan

originally this is a non turbo 2l 2 or the second genoration (shoc). this is my dads car we have gone to many winter trips on the car and it litterally smokes other hiluxes. i can probably post pictures. the turbos are a mitsubishi turbo from a 2,5 liter pajero that is the smaller turbo and the bigger one is some switcher turbo i think it was. and one question does anyone know if the turbo engine has another camshaft than the non turbo.

holy s*** two turbos on a 2l-t? thats friggen crazy talk.
Better to put two turbos on that than a 2l-te though.

IS it the original 2.4l head? or have you upgraded to the 2.8l head yet?

Dans, you ever do a switch from electronic fuel injection pump, to and older 2l-t mechanical pump, makes a big difference.

also... you should move this to the diesel section..

Mechanically speaking, the 2LII-T and 2L-TE are identical, one just has EFI.

I will wager that 75% of reported head issues with these motors happens to be related to people not knowing to let the turbo spool down a few minutes before engine shutoff. Those are surprisingly robust motors, and spunky, too!

you can't moderator should have ..

crazy EGT's on it .. time for 1KZ-T upgrade .. ;)

well hes right you cant the moderator has to, my bad. :)

I know that in BC these are imported frequently and i myself used to have a 2l-te, which had already cracked one head when i got it. From what ive heard, upgrading to a 2.8l head pretty much eliminates the head cracking problem for most people.

And those egt's are definately crazy.:steer:

2L

I like the 2L non turbo engines they have zero Jam but mine was always reliable and good on fuel, ran it daily for five years. they could use a turbo maybe two turbos...:) sounds like an awesome little truck any pics?

Nah,that can carbon up turbos, but it doesn't crack heads.

pics or your are full of s*** ...

"just posting this to say that these engines can take a beating."
if you want to beleive that so be it, some of us know better. there are a couple on this board that have a golden horsehoe up their ass and the heads have not cracked ... yet.

your just lucky, if it is true.

How so?

For the record, I'm not advocating either the engine, or overturboing it, I'm just stating that these motors can be tougher than what scuttlebut says.
These motors had a good run, were sold in numbers, and are still found in operation, I agree that they're probably Toyota's ugliest duckling, and I would never own one (now).
The one I test-drove and almost bought was a pretty fun ride, part of me wishes I had it, but I'm glad I passed up on that headache waiting to happen.

As Dougal pointed out, my notion of the turbo spool-down was incorrect, but it still stands to reason that a negligent owner could kill even the bulletproof 22R.

yes, a negligent owner can kill any engine. these ones do not need negligence to kill them, they commit suicide without any real help at all.

the OP is trying to instill confidence into a flawed engine design by abusing the crap out of it.
2000F
twin turbo
