I'm installing a new stereo and need to tap into the reverse lights to automatically activate the backup camera. From what I have read it is pin 19 of IG2 in the left kick panel. Once I'm inside the left kick panel how do I find it? I have done the 7 pin mod so I know there are a bunch of wires in there. Is it the red/black wire in the bottom picture of this link to Slee's 7 pin mod?

Also, has anyone successfully wired up the dim feature on an aftermarket stereo? The wiring harness that I got from Crutchfield's has everything working great but I noticed that it does not utilize the dim wire on the new stereo.

And for anyone installing a NAV/stereo unit this holiday season: If you run the new units parking brake sensing wire to ground, your passenger will be able to input GPS info or watch movies while you are on the move.

Yup. My Alpine deck has an orange wire that ties into a corresponding orange wire on my harness adapter.

Love it :D

My buddy did that to the new Nav deck in his Pathfinder... :hillbilly:

My Kenwood 5120 also has an orange wire but not the adapter they sent me. I'll have to look at some other adapters to see what pin they plug into on the existing molex.

By the way, for anyone installing the 5120 into a LX450, you do not have to bypass the factory amp. So far mine sounds great. Also, don't bypass the antenna - I wired it in and it functions like normal.

Do you have an EWD? That will be your biggest help.

Not yet, I just ordered one but it will be at least a week before I get it. I was hoping someone had access to the EWD or previous experience with the procedure.

On a 96 U.S 80 series there are 4 main drivers side floor connectors that hook up to the cowl harness. Id1, Id2, Id3, and Id4.

Id1 is a 20 pin plug.
id2 is a 22 pin plug.
id3 is a 14 pin plug.
id4 is the smallest of them all and is used mostly for the non-us subtank wiring.

You need to find id2 which has 22 pins and is long and wide. It has 10 pins on top and 12 on the bottom.

Pin 19 is a red/black wire on the bottom row of pins.

It is not the one in the picture of the pin 7 mod.

The picture below is of Id2. Hope that helps.

That is exactly what I was hoping for. It would have took me a while to figure it out even with the EWD.

Old thread, but a new THANK YOU to JPHockerAZ for posting the pin connection for reverse lights. Never too late for a thank you!

I am not sure what I tapped into. I went with a black and red that was in the correct pin position. I believe I had the id2 connector.

Somehow I must've tapped into the wrong one. When my left hand door is closed my stereo thinks I'm in reverse. If I open the door the stereo no longer displays the rear camera view.

Obviously the wrong wire. I don't see another one that looks like the correct one though. Any suggestions?
