So, I watched the 1985 Dakar on VHS a few nights ago, and noticed they had two of these 60-Series competing in the race. Even though they did not place first (Pajero took 1st) They did indeed finish the race.

Just wondering if anyone has some more info on this, or anything topic worthy.

I've looked at dakardantan.com and I've seen 5 60 series in the first few pages (FJ,BJ and HJ60). I knew my 60 was a racing truck!

Looking at that photo..... somethings not right other than different go-part under the hood...... has the rear been chopped for better departure angle?

It's a 2 door model that's for sure.
They probably used that frame length model in those 60 series firetrucks and stuff.

We have had this on the wagon way website for over a year pretty interesting really

I was messing about elsewhere on the net and came across this interesting info. FJ and BJ 60′s competed in the Paris Dakar Rally. Did pretty well too. The first 60 entered was in 1981 and while it didn’t meet the time deadline it did make it across the line to finish. In 1984 an FJ 60 finished 3rd in the marathon class. With a BJ 61 finishing 46th overall and another BJ 61 taking 6th in the assistant class. 1985 saw a prototype FJ 60 cross the line in 4th overall. Not that I know what these classes mean but just finishing Dakar was and still is a major accomplishment.

Sadly the link I had to the original info is no longer working or at least not right now.

What has a Chevy V8? My understanding is these still ran the Straight-6. When you hear them revving in the Dakar, it has that good old Straight-6 sound

The 1985 Dakar Land-Rover 110 had a V8 though.

It was a joke. That hood sure does look like it houses something serious though...
