Hey 60 owners with inclinometers - how'd you wire it in or is there an empty socket to plug it right in?

Thanks!

I had it installed in my 62: thread here

I just had to wire it to the clock. I'm surprised there's no socket in a 60, dash slot but no socket? Odd, that would mean the AU & US version had different wiring harnesses.

Maybe my PO cut out the connector to install the radio or something. But the inclinometer doesn't show up in any of my wiring diagrams.

Thanks mbb, I don't know anything about it so I don't question your experience in any way. I'm just suprised that it's not plug & play since it has the slot.

Anyone else able to chime in and tell us what you found?

Thanks!

I installed mine similar to the thread linked above. I used the radio hot wire for the clock, cigar lighter for the switched power and the light. A couple of T taps and some spade terminals and your set. I chose these wires to tap because they are close to the inclinometer.

I have read that there is suppose to be a terminal behind the instrument cluster but I was never able to find it on my '87.

FYI, the clock in the 62 has the same connecting terminal as used on the inclinometer so for those that want to have a plug you can pick one up to use on the 60.

where do you get those from? they are really nice.

i used the article above to wire mine in. just poked around with a test light to find the right connections. i found getting a 'always on' connection was the most difficult as i didn't have a permanent donor hot lead from the battery wired up at the time.

great conversation piece, but not particularly useful until after something bad has already happened. :]

Micah,

You can get them on eBay.au they come up there more
often then here in the U.S.

The female plug is the same as the one for the cigarette lighter (which has an "always on" hot lead).

FWIW, the inclinometer doesn't just "slide into" the 60's "cubby" face plate hole. The one I got from RedCruiser didn't have any mounting tabs at all, so I'm going to use the screws that hold the face to the body & run a bead of silicone on the inside. Hoping it will just slide on top of the ashtray mount.

I just got mine last week from Australia, but I have not tried to put it in yet.

So, are there any FJ60s that already have the plug, or do they all have to be spliced in?

there is no straight plug to plug it in - you have to splice.

minor correction to the above - it does slide in, but you have to remove the facia that covers the heater controls. this is probably removed anyways to wire in, but found mine slid in nicely and looks stock.

I have an inclinometer in my 60. Got it for the clock. Don't care about the bling/bling of the inclinometer... cough, cough...

Looked everywhere I could see/feel/reach to find a plug. Maybe there is one there, but I couldn't find it. Did the splice route as mentioned above.

It bolts in just fine, where the pocket was. But the fashia doesn't fit back over it w/out trimming.

Loeky -
"it does slide in, but you have to remove the facia that covers the heater controls": I did remove the heater control facia, but there's no way to mount it to the body (the cubby had 4 screw mounts). So I'm planning on using longer screws than the ones that hold the face plate on to go through the facia & face plate into the body of the inclinometer.

Lovey -
Did you butt yours up to the facia or enlarge the hole & insert it? What holds it in place?

Lovetoski PMd me to say his inclinometer had mounting tabs he screwed to the cubby mount holes. Mine doesn't have any!

Anyone have pix of an inclinometer with stock mounting tabs? With dimensions?

Mine is wired to my butt then its goes from the there straight to my head. My head then calculates that Im going to roll. I then decide a line to take the will normall envolve a roll but is stopped either by a large tree or rock/wall.

I use that method a lot. I think those lines are always the funest...Knowing when your going to dump it and knowing there is an object there to stop you from going over is a great help.

A lot of the trails I wheel envolve rock and when there is no rocks its extreme off camber in tight trails(trees). If it wasnt for knowing when I was going to roll and making sure my truck is close enough to an object to roll into and save me from going over, I think I would still stuck somewhere sitting on my lid.

Oh and I do have inclinometer almost never look at on the trail though.
