another update: i found this thread searching through the interweb...take what you can out of it. jacked from another forum:

http://www.zr2usa.com/mboard/index.php?showtopic=17952
(pretty much all the offroad tires have been mentioned on this thread)

UPDATE, THIS THREAD IS ALSO SHOWING OTHER TIRE OPTIONS, NOT JUST INTERCO, FOR THOSE INTERESTED...

Hi Folks,

lookin at a 78 40 with 4.88's/locked/winched/PS'd currently on 35"x14.5R15 boggers. so short story, PO will let it go for cheaper w/o the massive boggers which will be way overkill for my needs (gotta drive 2-3 hours to wheelin spots first, so the ride will be nuts, PO trailers it but i don't have that luxury and would like some pavement driving on nice days). anyway, this will be a trail rig no doubt. guess i'm stuck with that size tire cuz of the gearing, but it's all good. got more options with 33's but that's just too much rev's. anyway, i've done lots of searches on the 35x10.5R15 OR 34x95R15 tire size but didn't find too many feedback, most went into the 16" rims eventually. truck's got the factory white steelies. btw, is the 34x9.5 too skinny? i read one post that they may pop out of the beads...

so i'm on Interco's site (and really didn't find too many others carrying this particular tall/skinny size) and came up with 4 choices:

LTB in 34x10.5
LTB | Interco Tire
- bias ply

NARROW SS 34x9.5
Narrow S.S. | Interco Tire
- bias??
- needs special attention to PSI

SSR 35X10.5
SSR | Interco Tire
- thin tread design
- radial
- quieter

and

TSL Boggers 35X10.5
TSL Bogger | Interco Tire
- crazy aggressive

btw, rig has spacers. i'll most likely take the spacers out to sport the tall skinny.

in your opinion, what's the more appropriate tire for driving on the freeway 1-3 hours to get to the wheeling spot, then have fun in the dirt/rocks/whatever. i'm guessing the radial SSR's will do the job, just noticed a significant diff in tread depth b/w those and the rest of mudders...

i'm guessing i'll prolly get away with 34's, but having driven the rig and knowing it's the most comfortable at 80km/hr (just take my time on the road) with 35's, just wondering if that extra inch will make a difference, knowing that 2 inches definitely will. won't be touching the gears anytime soon, i'll stick with it, just need the right tire!

hope someone can shed some wisdom for this newb! thanks in advance.
cheers.
romey

and if all goes as planned, i'll make my proper intro!

why not go with a mud terrain over a bogger or swamper? since your gonna be on the road you said a swamper or bogger probly won't have a long tread life and the drive wont be nearly as nice with that aggressive of a tire.

boils down to tire choices, lot's of 35x12.5's but can't seem to find too many 10.5's... but yeah, MT's will do, dunno why i'm stuck on that size, lol. saw firestone destination MT's, wrangler MT's, and BFG's MT's a nd a few more... hmm, think i'm forcing the "issue" with 10.5's....;)

If money is no oblect then I would go with the 35x12.5 Goodyear MTR's. I have run them for years and love the off road ability as well as the road manners. I probably will go with the BFG KM2's mext though. I just like the tread pattern. Take a look at the Hankook Dynapro MT's as well. Got several buddies that run them and like them a lot. Just my .02. Good luck.

Later,

if you are looking for a 35-10.5 swamper, look at the Q78-15 TSL

hokay, looks like swampers are gonna have to be out due to excessive road wear on road, thanks for that input lil'john. didn't realize they eat up that much more rubber than MT's..

but hmm, BigRed, how are your Q78-15 TSL's makin out on the pavement? got a pic kickin around?

looks like i'm out of choices for 35x10.5's/34x9.5's...so will be lookin at 35x12.5's in MT's...more options. but KEEP THE SPACERS for 12.5" wide??

thanks for the link on the michelins Can.bum,, but looks like they don't make em for 15" rims, noice tire tho! (i'm on a tight tight budget so getting another set of 16" steelies is out for now...)

the BFG MT's and Goodyear MT/R's are same price, and looks like i'm not gonna find anything cheaper in that size...

BFG KM's and KM2's

goodyear MT/R kevlar(woah! pricey i'm sure) or MT/R or MT/R(P)

(hankook dynapro MT's and firestone destination MT's don't make 35" for a 15" rim, too bad)

also looked at dick cepeks mud country and crushers in a 35x12.5

fellas, thanks for the comments and advice so far!

hopefully these links can help the next newb....

I've ran the 34/10.5 LTBs on a few hiluxs before and they worked awesome. Didnt look too bad either. Just dont expect them to last for 50,000 miles, they wear out like a hottie in a trailer park :D

34x10.5 LTBs

here are the 34's on my '68 40 with 4.11s

no, its just in the mid stages of a build and not street "legal" yet. plus it has 40 y/o susp setup and a tired 327. no spacers needed. will be a trail capable, street rig

by the way, the LTBs are LOUD..some love it, some hate it

i just got the km2's they look sweet. paid $157/piece for 35/12.5/15's

great price...i paid around $225 for the 16" equivalent (315/75R16)...

also, mtrs are noticeably TALLER then bfgs
