New owner here- picked up a 1958 in black for my wife! Love it since the first test drive, coming from a 2016 Sequoia SR5.

''It out preforms any previous us land cruiser' Enjoyed this vid, his thoughts on the Land Cruiser with some bits and peices of info that could be helpful for a potential buyer.

Well produced video. He seems to prefer the Lexus variant of the 250
To each his own I guess. Glad Toyota offers both.

This guy judged to quick and he never owned a 250 Land Cruiser he's just a view chaser. Anyway, those in the background lurking here watch the video above this one it's from an actual 250 owner not someone looking for clicks. here's the link again.

Toyota is selling a fair number of the J250 so the many new buyers must be happy.

Recently jumped into a 1958 model at a Toyota Dealer, checked out the interior and exterior, etc.
Felt a bit like I was sitting in an updated FJ Cruiser with somewhat better rearward/side visibility.

Not hating it, just not impressed enough to drop $60K at this point so hopped back into my tank (1997 FZJ80) and drove home.

I'll check out the J250 again in a few years once (future) engines and hybrid options gets sorted out.

FWIW

Good Video! their thoughts on the 250 with some 70/prado lore. Figured this would be a good place to plop the video down

I dont know in what world someone would buy the above when you could have a NEW LC250 1958 with a lifetime powertrain warranty.

I truely think all the hate on the 250 is from 200 owners throwing mud on the new guy (dispite the new guy looking WAY better)

Stuff like this is why I typically think a used Toyota is a bad buy. They just don't depreciate enough to make it worthwhile over buying brand new.
This isn't exclusive to 200's either, look at 5th Gen 4Runners, 3rd Gen Tacoma's, and even 100's and 80's even since the over landing craze of the last 5 years.

Thing looks like a bloated Highlander. With 100,000 miles for $52k...no effing way. YMMV.

its basically a 4runner
and you throw lockers, portals, body armor, and 35" meaty tires under a new ford ranger and it'll go just about anywhere too
that is not the 'baddest' land cruiser....its all just 'look at me' click bait

Well, looks are subjective. I, for one, happen to think the 200 looks WAY better than the 250Prado.

To your point though, IMO the hate comes from people comparing the two (like you are doing) when they are not comparable vehicles. There is a reason for a used vehicle with 100kmiles having an asking price (and selling for) close to a brand new one. They are simply not is the same category. It is like comparing an M5 with a 5series. Imagine if 5 years ago people started to compare the 200 with the 5th gen 4Runner. You would laugh and for good reason. That is basically the same as comparing the 200 with the 250. The only thing they share is the name - which is the real crux of this whole discussion caused by Toyota when trying to sell a Prado as a replacement for the LC in the US, as opposed to actually bringing the LC300.

I know this may not be a popular opinion in this 250forum, but it is (simply put) the objective truth.

Subjectively, you can take you style opinions and go buy as many glorified Grocery Getters as you want! Please leave the 250s to us offroaders and overlanders!

You are correct. Perhapse i shouldent compare the soccer mom car with the 2025 Light Duty Land Cruiser

This is not a good comparison. the M5 and 5series are the same vehicle marketed to people with different wallet sizes. They serve the same purpose but one is fancy and fast and the other is not. Both are used to move upper mid-level managers and corporate execs from their homes in the suburbs to their finance jobs in the city.

This is far more like comparing an Excursion to a Bronco. Excursions are great, but they have been discontinued. They are capable off road, but theyre not like a true offroader. They will always have a place in our hearts as a cool sidecar experement by Ford (especially with the diesel motor!) Wherease the new Bronco (fully built out) is the most capable off-road vehicle on the market, but it SUCKS to go pick up groceries in (God forbid you need to pick up 6 kids to go to soccer practice)

The 200 is to 150 as the 300 is to 250. The hate is from 200 owners that want more Toyota Suburbans, not 60/80/100 series owners who value style and offroad capability. This is not to say Suburbans arnt EXCELLENT. Theyre just not for going off road.

I remember reading somewhere that toyota designed the 250 to get UN contracts in developing countries? The 300 series is their Flagship model. High tech, nice to drive, but ultimately designed for road travel. The 70 series is their Heavy Duty farm vehicle. Solid axels and killer off road, but it wont get three doctors from Islamabad to Kabul in any kind of comfort. The 250 blends the two.

That being said, it is very fair to compare different vehicles.

I knew this would strike a nerve. 😅 You can do the same and go buy all the glorified 4runners disguised as Prados as you want, real offroader/overlander! Nice title btw!

You seem confused here. Maybe the nerves are getting into you.

Hahaha...you surely must be joking or need to find better reading material. Just do a quick search and look for UN and military land cruisers. Then come back here and let us know how many Prados you found as opposed to 200s and 300s.

Stop comparing and go enjoy your 4Runner (real) overlander/offroader! ;)

I think that one just isn't a very good deal. Pretty hard for me to go buy a $55k LC250 base when you can buy a 46,000 mile LX570 for $56k.

Actually, (and ironically), Toyota Gibraltar Stockholdings (the authorized dealer for UN and NGO distribution) disagrees with you.
