Correct , it does not have the RED cable in there but I was hoping to use the black as the red , I am going to add red bands at each end and in the middle so it is clearly the main power cable. (I also have other smaller cable not in the picture.)

What do we think , is this a bad idea ?

I know this is probably after the fact, but when I changed to a Odyssey Battery on my GSXR motorcycle, I had to make new wires for the new connections on the Odyssey battery. I don't remember the gauge presently, nonetheless it was the correct gauge, but the wire I had to use for positive was black. Too identify it as the Red Positive, I purchased some red heat shrink tubing from my local hardware store and heat shrunk it to length of the wire, about 15". Worked great and added a little more insulation to the cable, whether it needed it or not.
For 15' of cable, small sections of red heat shrink would work great also.:idea:

I also go to try out my dual battery wired 12 volt set up in the back for the frig. It worked like a charm and at might I was able to run a fan to cool off sleeping in the back.
 
Rear bumper fix broken frame bolts

Well after my great weekend out a Coal Creek , I managed to tweek my ARB bumper into the body and get my first body damage !

I fell into a raven and well impacted the bottom front , not even right on the wing. The bumper folded right where the tube comes in from the top. If you look close you can see the ripple. Yes it was a very hard hit and I am lucky it was not worse.

just adds to the memories. , but that got me thinking about my rear which I had never fully bolted down due to broken frame nuts... These were the far ones holding the the factory hitch on and the BIO side braces use this to help support the wings.

so.....
 
Off to a fellow expo member near me.... for a lift and some modifications.

Cool... then Stump did his magic and fixed me up.

First he tapped out and opened up the frame holes I was having trouble with , this was two on each side.

He also went out of the way and fabbed up some better attachment bolts for the wings anyone running the bump it off road rear will know what I am talking about. This is where the BIO plate bolts to the wing. These are recessed a little and are hard to get to . He made a bracket which also added more strength to that area.

Also while I was there I had a new bracket made for my 30 inch LED with security bolts.

Been too long with no updates! Great looking 100, i think I've seen this thing 2x out on the road haha.
 
Thanks , on the way into work I got a misfire , engine started stumbling.... Code P0303 , Coil Pack. Broke out my Nexus 7 and torque read the codes look up on line which coil pack and in 5 mins had a new one in had from Auto Zone. This was Coil Pack # 3 which is on the driver's side. Went home and changed it in 20 mins. I think I will start keeping my spare one in the truck !

I have finished my dual battery set up but have not taken any more pictures of the completed set up. I have tested it out with my refrigerator and it worked like a charm.... I will take some more photos soon... I might even have a new mod soon.

Two questions:

1) What type of skills are needed to accomplish what's in the picture? (I know I can't do it, but want to know what I should be looking for in a shop that could.)

Love the FLG sticker - I went to NAU and go back to Flag and Sedona about once per year.

thanks my parents bought a place in Sedona so we get out that way when we can. Hoping to drive out there this spring ...

Just finished up my second 90 k service and while I was in got the leaking value covers redone. I had a 10% off coupon so I had to stack it up. I still managed to drop $1,400 :doh: but included an oil change.. :doh: I hope I am good for another 100k.

Damm , I need to get these TC Upper control arms installed already, they have been sitting on my bench for a year now....


As for the work mentioned above, I have no idea. I am lucky and have a friend from Expo which is a certified welder so he took care of everything and I took care of the $$$. He also works on Heeps and builds them up exo style.

Yeti in GA - we've got similiar builds.. great job fixing up the bio rear.. i had problems with captive frame nuts that siezed the bolts in place, forcing me to drill new holes for alternate bracing. when not wheeling, i pull a 4000 lb boat in the summer. so far so good:)..

i see you have duratracs.. i'm not sure what you had before but i'm thinking of going same route.. i have 285/75/16 bfg a/t and they are adequate.. we have actual winter in canada;) and the duratracs look better for the mud and deep water we have, plus look good for crawling. combine that with their superior winter footpring/siping, i think it may be an excellent upgrade. our mud doesn't look as thick as your gumbo clay down there, but we still have a lot of it.

how do you like the duratracs and particularly that size.. i'm sitting on the fence to go 315 from 285.. i really like the clearance of 35's, but lose articulation and then have a host of other crap to maintain plus negative aspects of raising a vehicle.
 
Sleeping platform, light weight , removable, adjustable

Well I have had this idea and it is still a work in process but I thought I would go ahead and post some pictures. I will post more with everything set up for sleeping. I started off with wanting a solo sleeping platform which needed to be light weight, easy to store, and had some additional function a table.

I started with:

2 - (1 inch pipe bases) $5.25 each
4 - ( 2 foot 1 inch PVC pipe 40) 1.60 each
4 - male fittings threaded 1.23 each
2 - female fittings 1.23 each
some left over grey auto carpet
1 - 1/2 inch ply board cut to size (34 inch wide, 6 foot long) $20


Again I was going for light weight and easy in and out for this . It would only be something I put in before a trip where I am solo. I will run a rolling bin underneath for storage of gear.

I will start with the end result for now for the ones that have short attention spans. :D

continued sleeping platform...

First I sanded down all edges and top to get all the rough stuff off and no corners. then I cut a corner and test fit.

I went with threaded pipe for legs because they can be removed pretty easy and they can be adjusted if you so happen to park on an incline so you can have your head higher then your feet.

I added some bracing to help support my body as 1/2 inch ply is not thick enough alone.

the legs are 11 inches and can be adjusted via the threaded bottom fitting.

more platform for sleeping

Here is a shot underneath, I will be running a bin with rollers on it for storage underneath. Again this is about 10 inches high in there.

With this not only is the rear adjustable but you can attach legs for a table off the back and have a larger area for cooking , cleaning and eating.

Love the Plasti Dip

Gotta love the Plasti Dip. It can look a little cheap if you're not careful, but then you can just peel it off. I have an '87 4 runner that had terrible paint. Wasn't about to spend more on body work then on the care though. I started with the wheels, and it worked great ... so I did the running boards, then went nuts and did the whole truck in a combo of tan and black. Not a pro job, but looks better than the previous combo of white and rust. Probably wouldn't want to do a whole cruiser, but for trim or other little spots, and especially wheels, it works great and is cheap. You can find black at Home Depot and lots of other colors available to order.

Well after seeing some of the other folks doing the wheels and emblems I thought I would try the stuff on my hood to see how it works and for durability. now my hood is messed up with the clear coat coming off so I could not mess it up any more. My objective was to cover this area and only this area.

I started out by testing the product on a spot , this was the spray and peel off test which seemed to work great. So I put down some new wax and taped everything off and begin to spray.

Now , the deal with this stuff is that it is very hard to get a nice edge. I would say almost impossible. But it does go on really easy and it pulls off easy as long as you put a good coat on. It does collects dirt and may not be a good choice for a large surface like a hood. But I think I kind of like the stripes, sort of makes it look like a stealth job.
 
Well I developed a leaking and wont you know , after 210,000 miles my steering rack needs to be replaced. power steering pump is leaking and making groaning sounds... I got a quote from the dealer and man they were going to take me for a ride.... Then steps in ACC and Lowe Toyota to save the day. still going to be $$$ but I have to say the truck will be in good hands with ACC.

I wonder if I should have anything else done while its in there like tie rode ends ? Any suggestions ?
