Yeti (Not Al) Coolers

I have been looking at Pecalins (kid spelling) as another thing to buy, maybe next summer if i do more remote exploring/camping. Goes with buying a roof rack and a hilift paper weight, justifying it in my own twisted way. And as long as I am happy with my purchase, I can sleep with a smile. Amazon pricing seems to be moving in the right direction for me on Pelican, good boxes in the ole army.

A fridge means I have to tinker in the dark arts of electrowizardry, and the dogs would have to stay home.

a yeti is great if you fish of hunt ducks or other game birds... You cant haul an Engel out there like that.

for what we like to do a plug in makes sense and you can get an edgestar for cheaper than most Yetis

Yeah, that's what I mean. I see them as serving two different purposes. Not really comparable.

Another scientific and totally unbiased review with no marketing shenanigans, at all:

It’s Yukon vs. Yeti for the Rotomolded Cooler Title

By the way, there are a few rotomolded coolers on Craigslist, some are pretty good prices. "Fell of a truck" somewhere? I need to get off this thread, gonna spend $ thousands in billable hours to save $100 on a cooler, freaking engineer, no concept of finance....

Al, not sure I understand the remark on the Engle. I have an Engle cooler and a Yeti and I do not see a significant difference in hauling them out in the field, other than the Engle cooler (not a fridge) is about 30-35% less expensive for a comparable size.

Still loving my Pelican. Just sayin'. It's heavy as crap but built like a tank...kind of like a Land Cruiser...so it is a very fitting choice IMO.

Dave, did you shop the pelican against a yeti (or other) cooler? If so, what sold you?

Rice

Yeah, Rice. I shopped it against the Yeti. The price was about a third less than the Yeti. That's what really sold me on it but now that I have used it for a while I like the other features as well. The swivel handles are nice and I like the latches too. Much better than the rubber pulls on the Yeti IMO. I have heard of the Yeti's breaking (which is why they sell replacement yeti latches at my local hardware store). The Pelican is heavier and less streamlined than the Yeti. Hinges are not recessed and do stick out a little but it has not been an issue. I just can't see paying over 4 bills for a cooler. This one is plenty good for me.

sorry sometimes I forget engle makes coolers.... I was referring to a plug in fridge

Ok ... So I was a bit dense ....

Costco has the Pelican Coolers via online ordering. I got my 35 qt for 199 shipped (+ tax), which is about 30-50 dollars less than the lowest I could find shopping around. Really like it, it came down to the price. I was looking at the IndelB/Truckfridge TF31 (30 qt capacity) which was 429+shipping. Not nearly as nice as some of the other portable fridges but still has gotten pretty darn good reviews. TruckFridge Model: TF31 - Portable Model Just couldn't afford the extra 250-275 price difference.

That's a great price!

Not a costco member so I can't log on ... but Sam's club has them also. Can someone that is a cosco member please look up the shipped price for the 95 quart pelican so I can compare?

It's $379 at Sam's but there is an additional $48 for shipping and tax.

Well, that nails it.

The pelican company website has a 95 QT for $344 but also $135 for their cheapest shipping. (I could overnight it for $344 PLUS $1051!)

REI has the best deal on the 105 QT Yeti (which everyone knows is less than 105 quarts) for $480. So right at a $100 diff.

The price difference wasn't that far apart until the Costco thing came up .... that was the best online price by far!

Plus I wanted any new cooler I got to be bear proof and it appears both brands have it covered.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but has anyone seen the Rtic coolers?

www.rticcoolers.com

Half the price of Yeti, same design, better warranty, free shipping, bear resistant, less marketing though.

Still haven't pulled the trigger on a cooler for my boat/camping but considering this. This style is just so damn heavy though.

A public shout of thanks to James for the use of his Costco account. He even drove the thing out to my house when it showed up on his doorstep.

Thanks man.
