Yet another Vent Window Question

I need the following pictures and measurements:

1. Cross-section of the actual rubber extrusion
2. Each of the channels of the frame
3. Glass - especially need the thickness measurement

Currently 6,000 miles from my rig.

Steve

I should be able to get that for you tonight...

Demensions

I was able to download this picture from Robert's site a year or so ago, hope it helps because I need a set

Everything helps. I have not yet heard back from Robert, but hope that he does respond at some point. Better to use the work he has done so far, instead of completely re-inventing the wheel. Any other pictures, specs and the like would be helpful, especially when we go out to vendors to get these made. A detailed spec/drawing of the extrusion profile/cross-section would be very good to have.

EDIT - just found the folders for Roberts work on the Bug Catchers. I will pull-down the relevant bits. Still need measurements, but have plenty of original and repro pictures. Have sent a copy of the pictures to Fairchild Automotive, who appear to be willing and able to do custom extrusions just like this. The devil will be in the startup costs.

Thank you for taking on this project, Steve. I am happy to pay upfront for a set if it helps jumpstart production. I'll stay tuned here for updates on the cost.

Cheers and thanks again.

OK, we have some progress as I have heard back from Fairchild and they are asking for more information.

1. Does anyone have a few small samples of each extrusion leftover from their install? I can send them my old ones, but will need samples of the OZ repro.

2. Thoughts on how many the 25, early 40 and 45 crowd will need moving forward? They want an idea of annual demand for the product.

3. Target prices...what are you willing to reasonably pay? Robert was charging around $100 IIRC.

As I noted in an earlier post, if anyone has the detailed CAD design which Robert may have made for these, that could help to reduce the costs.

Steve

Did you buy the set Jim was selling?

My set is tucked away in California, and I am 6,000 miles away on business. Plus, I am a bit leery about having any cut off of them before installation, as running short would not be good. The request would be for someone who has already installed theirs, and had some small remnants which serve no other purpose. We all keep the extra bits and pieces, eh?

I have sent several other messages to Robert, hoping to get a copy of his CAD drawings. Those are the holy-grail to save us monies when getting another vendor to pick up the project.

I am in for at least one set, although I have a spare set of doors so it may be a good idea to do two sets.

Bug catcher rubber

ctcv1984 would like two sets if you can find a source. I'd be willing to pay $150/pr. If it's helpful I have a set of old one's that are kinda beat up but still one piece that you can borrow to help make new one's. Pete.

i also have remnants, plus a complete set of the robert ones.

Any updates Steve?

No major updates. I need to pull my old ones and send the sample bits/pieces off to Fairchild...have been back in the US for two weeks and been slammed at work. Once they have the old and new, we should be able to find out if they can do the work (99% yes), and for how much.

One thought I had was to get one of the vendors who sells Cruiser parts involved. SOR was not very interested in taking part in the project, and I have not yet heard back from Cruiser Corps. The idea is that they would be more likely to buy a decent quantity and offer these on their sites, and re-order as necessary. If anyone has any connections or ability to bring a vendor into the project, that would be a good thing.

Steve

I have a few connections Steve. Not quite a big as SOR but still. How many are we looking at on the first run to make this reality?
I am good friends with a shop that has a near bottom less pit for these.

Any more updates on this? I had been in contact with Robert about possibly buying the remnants or at least a handful of his kits a few years back. Things got busy and we never connected the dots. I'm still in dire need of a set and would love to have options for customers. I've got some rubber manufactures we buy from with other w/s needs, I've reached out to them in the past but need to do so again to see what kind of numbers they are looking at. As I recall Robert sold his in 'bulk', x amount of the top, front and bottom and x amount of the back hinge material. I seem to recall that one had to be special made and the other was a standard part but it could be that Robert invested in getting both made?

Kurt if you pick up the ball on this one count me in as your first order, I can not complete my 65LPB without the bug catcher rubber too. Steve, thanks again for your efforts on getting this rolling:cheers:

Will definitely keep everyone posted, CycloSteve has done a bunch of legwork and I'm hoping we can continue the progress. Not going to happen tomorrow, next week or even in the next few months but I'll continue working on it. CycloSteve has some of the old Robert Furman remnants headed my way, by chance does anyone else have the scraps left from their Furman sets? I'd love to have more than one set to send off to manufactures as samples.

Speaking of... Roberts files are no longer available online and I don't know if I downloaded them years back when I started searching. Any chance someone has them downloaded, it would be nice to have a reference starting point. I'd really love to get with Robert and pick up where he left off as he did some neat work but he isn't easy to get a hold of :D
